Johnson School at Cornell University to Recognize Pearson's New State-of-the-Art Measure of English Language Ability

Ivy League Graduate School Joins Growing List of Institutions Accepting Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)

Ithaca, N.Y., and London (PRWEB) April 15, 2009 -- The Johnson School at Cornell University announced today that it will recognize Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic), the company's computer-based academic English language test that measures the English language proficiency of candidates for admission who are non-native English speakers. The Ivy League university's graduate business school offers four masters of business administration programs and a doctoral program, and includes numerous leaders in business, government and nonprofits among its more than 12,000 alumni.

"Students come from around the world to take advantage of the high-quality, diverse offerings of the Johnson School's graduate business management programs," said Randall Sawyer, Director of Admissions, Johnson School. "As we evaluate candidates, PTE Academic will give us an important tool for measuring their ability to study in an academic environment where English is the primary language of instruction."

PTE Academic is endorsed by the prestigious Graduate Management Admission Council® (GMAC®), owner of the Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®). The test will be launched internationally in October 2009.

As the worldwide global leader in publishing and assessment for education, Pearson combined the power of international test development, in-depth research and proven, proprietary automated scoring technologies to develop PTE Academic. The test will fill a critical need by providing a state-of-the-art test that accurately measures English language speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities of non-native speakers.

"We are proud to add an Ivy League institution such as Cornell University to the growing list of colleges and universities in the United States and around the world, recognizing our new, accurate measure of English language ability," said Mark Anderson, President, Pearson Language Tests.

PTE Academic will deliver real-life measures of test takers' language proficiency to universities, higher education institutions, government departments and other organizations requiring academic-level English. The test is designed to predict more efficiently the ability of test takers to function in an English-oriented academic environment.
