Jyco Takes Green Theme on the Road - and Trail
Jyco exec takes environmental attitude from extruding lines around the world to mountain bike racing in Michigan. The avid mountain biker is also one of the team's athletes, and recently finished Runner-up in the 2007 Michigan Mid East Sprint Series.
Dexter Michigan (PRWEB) November 29, 2007 -- When it comes to a green philosophy Shawn Jyawook does more than walk the talk. He rides it.
Jyco Sealing Technologies
Jyco Sealing Technologies is the corporate sponsor of Team Dakotech-Trek, a group of Michigan-based endurance athletes who use mountain biking and triathlons to promote environmental stewardship and the awareness, support and usage of the Michigan state park system.
Shawn Jyawook, Jyco's chief operating officer, doesn't limit his enthusiasm for the team's mission to financial support. The avid mountain biker is also one of the team's athletes, and recently finished Runner-up in the 2007 Michigan Mid East Sprint Series.
"Thinking green is a way of life at Jyco," says Jyawook. "From day one, our operations were built on an environmentally conscious philosophy. When we can take this attitude on the road, all the better." In addition to the logos of their various sponsors, the team's gear and trailers also sport the Department of Natural Resources "GO: Get Outdoors" logo. Ron Olson, Chief of the Parks & Recreation Division of the Michigan DNR, serves as Team Dakotech-Trek's stewardship chairman and advisor.
Since its founding in 2000, Jyco has established itself as a world leader in vehicular weatherseals made with thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV), a compound that offers a host of advantages over traditional EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) that had dominated the industry since the 1980s.
Jyco's proprietary TPV compound, JyFlex, offers eco-friendly advantages as well as improved performance. The production process is free of VOCs and particulate emissions characteristic of EPDM processing. JyFlex products and scrap are also 100% recyclable.
JyFlex production already meets stringent environmental standards of other countries where Jyco manufactures its products for automotive OEMs worldwide. The company has operations in Belgium, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico and the United States. The company's global headquarters is in Dexter, Michigan.
Shawn Jyawook runs his races like his extruding lines run TPV - with a green vision in mind, and always looking for new ways to improve.
"Our manufacturing operations are the first step in a series of ways we help our customers build the greenest possible vehicles, and we're always looking for new ways. In January we'll unveil a major breakthrough," shares Jyawook, "the technology for recycling tires into high performance TPV parts."
And after that, the 2008 mountain biking season begins…
