Alien Pen-Pals Teach Children the Universal Message of Friendship

What happens when two children from opposite sides of the universe are matched by an Intergalactic Space Club to become pen-pals? Darius and Zmod are about to find out in the fascinating new children’s book “My Alien Penfriend.”

Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 2, 2006 -- Friendship can be found, even in the most unlikely places. Darius, a young boy from Earth, and Zmod, an alien from the planet Bartoch are both curious about life on other planets. Joining the Intergalactice Space Club, the two are matched to become penfriends and begin corresponding by spacemail. Learning about each others lives becomes exciting and fun, and the two boys begin to realize that though their lives are very different, in many ways they are incredibly similar.

Faiz Kermani’s adventurous children’s book, “My Alien Penfriend” appeals to the active imagination of children – young and old! In a highly entertaining way, Kermani teaches children about friendship, environment, and tolerance amidst noticeable differences. “I wanted to express the idea that with an open mind, it is possible to become friends with people from backgrounds completely different from your own,” says Kermani.

The curious pair communicates across the galaxy through spacemail, and discovers fascinating facts that keep each boy eagerly anticipating the next letter. Darius has a pet dog, Ranger, and Zmod has a pet glod, Darak. Zmod tells how rocks can move on his planet, people live underground, and how Bartoch has two moons. Darius tells Zmod about Earth’s different countries, its world government, football, and the hunt for the Loch Ness Monster. Talking about school, vacations and parents, the boys begin to realize that though they are from different worlds, they have developed a great friendship.

Kermani’s talent for weaving deeper themes into a humorous tale is the core of this story’s incredible value. Through this new look at the universe, children learn to pay more attention to what is happening in the world around them. They find out that though life can seem tough at times, it’s important to take time to have fun; and, with indirect reference to current topics such as the global environment and terrorism, children are introduced to timely concepts in a fun and highly entertaining way.

“My Alien Penfriend” sparks the vast creative minds of children by releasing the limitations of real life. By learning about life on differing planets, “My Alien Penfriend” encourages children to embrace diversity, and most importantly, teaches that there truly are – no barriers to friendship!

Faiz Kermani lives with his wife in London, England. He has lived throughout England, as well as Ireland, Pakistan, Iran, and Algeria. Born with the travel bug, he has visited about 30 countries and still considers his childhood pen-pal from Australia one of his closest friends. Kermani visits schools to talk about his book, and still continues to receive fan mail from these children. He is involved with a number of literacy projects using his book to encourage reading and writing. “My Alien Penfriend” can be purchased at online bookstores For more information, visit http://www.myalienpenfriend.co.uk, or check out ‘blog behind the book’ Zmodsworld (http://www.zmodsworld.com).
