The ones she found for young children lacked the age appropriate content component necessary to keep elementary age kids engaged, and other sites didn’t offer the parent-monitored safety component needed for kids too young for Facebook and MySpace. Knowing that keeping the kids entertained would be key in creating a successful web destination, KIDZARONI.com has incorporated popular web culture into their site and their parent editors screen all content. Kids can view some the Internet’s favorite videos, compete for “high score” in the game room or listen to the original KIDZARONI RADIO STATION, a 50/50 mix of age appropriate Top 40 songs and “tween” artists like Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, and Miranda Cosgrove.
As parents of two children in the target demographic, Kim and Scott Shapiro are extremely concerned about safety issues and have gone to great lengths to make sure KIDZARONI.com is a safe site that adheres to The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"). Recognizing that a parent’s number one concern is keeping their children and their personal information safe, the foundation of the site’s platform is based on S.H.A.D.O.W.© (Safe Hands-on Approach to Directing kids through the Online World) monitoring system.
