Arresting Indie Rock Album Packs Fierce Punch with a Polished Glove

Yale trained composer releases alternative rock debut mixed by Montreal's Howard Bilerman

Brooklyn, NY (Billboard Publicity Wire/PRWEB ) October 30, 2007 -- Kira Fontana releases The Inner Revolution (Spark the Fire! Records, on 11/11/07).
Exceptional in its exquisite craft and bold simplicity, intimate solo moments and massive unorthodox arrangements, The Inner Revolution has all the raw emotional impact of a rock album and the polished beauty of a classical composition. The debut of arresting new alternative artist Kira Fontana, this defiantly ecstatic music packs a fierce punch with razor precision -- no doubt partially due to the fact that Fontana is a conservatory and Ivy League trained composer.

The Inner Revolution
The Inner Revolution

While one may hear distant echoes of Tori Amos, the anthemic post-rock of Sigur Rós or the minimalism of Steve Reich, Fontana's tour-de-force song writing and hauntingly gorgeous voice stand on territory all their own. Add to that a rare lyrical depth, intelligence and fire, and you have an intensely beautiful new music -- immediate, real and impossible to pin down.

Mixed by Howard Bilerman at Montreal's famed Hotel 2 Tango and mastered by legendary Howie Weinberg, The Inner Revolution has a quiet force and no holds-barred sound that completely defies its indie budget. Recorded everywhere from the porch of Fontana's grad school apartment to NYC's Cutting Room studios, SF's Tiny Telephone and drummer/co-producer Lawson White's warehouse in Brooklyn, the album emerges as an integrated whole -- each song carrying a depth of feeling unique for a whole album.

Much of The Inner Revolution's power lies in its inventive arrangements, springing from Fontana's solo piano to an über-band of electric guitars, bass, drums, vibes, flower pots, bells and strings (all played by fellow Eastman School of Music alumni). "I found that some of the songs were so big I ended up writing out parts with the same careful attention to detail I would for a classical piece", Fontana muses. Rich with syncopated rhythms, intricate interlocking percussion, multi-layered vocal harmonies, sweeping cello melodies, mean bass lines, driving ethereal guitars and completely unconventional sonic structures, it is at times almost orchestral in scope. On the irony of such forces and careful composition in a rock album, Fontana says, "I fully intended to do something smaller and more spontaneous in these songs...but the music had a life of its own. Bloom took seven months to write, while Always had eight percussion parts alone."

Subtle, riveting and best listened to at high volume in a dark room, The Inner Revolution is more of an experience than a group of songs - a stunning debut from an extraordinary new artist destined to light a path all her own.
