Rebecca DeVere Unveils New Series at Kirkland Uncorked

Rebecca DeVere's new series, unseen by even her closest friends, will be revealed Friday at Kirkland Uncorked July 17-19. Her art will be on display and available for guests to purchase all weekend at Kirkland Uncorked, a festival of art, style and taste.

Kirkland, WA (Vocus/PRWEB ) July 14, 2009 -- Fractured. The word describes Rebecca DeVere's first formal art assignment in college. But where most fledgling artists would throw up their hands in frustration, DeVere found inspiration. With an encouraging word from her instructor she decided to make these cracks "her own" and explore the world of mosaics.

As she continued to take ownership of this new art direction, her mosaic pieces became increasingly fractured and original. DeVere used a combination of techniques including making her own tiles and carving high density construction foam then layering it with Milestone concrete to build her mosaic shrines and animals.

After establishing herself with mosaics for the last 13 years, DeVere recently fell ill and after 3 surgeries in 8 months found herself bedridden for an entire summer. Not to be discouraged, DeVere said spending so much time indoors gave her a renewed appreciation for the outdoors. She decided to explore a new avenue, returning to her roots as a Plein Air oil painter painting outdoors instead of in a studio.

Her new direction prompted her to create Road Trip Series #1. Inspired by nature and landscapes, the new series documents her travels through the back roads of Oregon and Washington with her husband Dennis and her two dogs. DeVere said her favorite painting so far is one of a rotten snag.

"Everybody wants to paint the perfect tree," she said. "I swear I can find something beautiful everywhere I look."

DeVere is a true artist whose dedication to her craft once kept her painting outside in 45-degree weather for 5 hours.

"I just couldn't quit."

DeVere's new series, unseen by even her closest friends, will be revealed Friday at Kirkland Uncorked July 17-19. Her art will be on display and available for guests to purchase all weekend at Kirkland Uncorked, a festival of art, style and taste.
