Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 13, 2012
The highly-anticipated third annual Kollaboration DC Talent Competition and Showcase, taking place on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 7:00PM at the George Washington University Lisner Auditorium (730 21st Street NW, Washington DC 20052), will present some of the most unique and dynamic emerging talents from the Asian/Pacific Islander (API) community of the greater Washington DC metropolitan area.
Kollaboration, now an international organization with production teams of students and young professionals across the United States and Canada, endeavors to strengthen the API presence in entertainment and media by empowering Asian American artists to pursue their creative dreams while inspiring newer generations of talent. Kollaboration DC III furthers this goal, allowing talented artists and the greater API community to unite and celebrate the arts in a high-energy environment. This year’s show promises to be another exciting and memorable experience for all ages!
This past May, ten talented acts were selected through an intense and competitive round of auditions as finalists for the talent competition portion of Kollaboration DC III. These selected finalists range from experienced up-and-coming artists looking to utilize Kollaboration DC III as a springboard to introduce their talents to a brand new audience, to newly-discovered acts who have never performed on a stage before.
The competitors will face off on stage in front of the audience and a panel of celebrity judges for the chance to win the grand prize: $1,000 in prize money, an HD camera furnished by MNET, and an opportunity to compete in Los Angeles for the chance to perform at the MNET Music Video Awards in Tokyo this November. As a bonus, the winner of Kollaboration DC III will also open for David Choi and Clara Chung at the historic Howard Theatre on November 10, 2012. This year’s competitors are (in no particular order): LacsaJacaKhan (Singer/Guitarist/Rapper), Christopher L. Santa Ana (Singer-Songwriter), Robert Park (Spoken Word Performer), GU Jawani (Dance Group), Robyn Kim (Singer-Songwriter), Jin Shin (Singer-Songwriter), Rocka (Singer-Songwriter), George Yamazawa Jr. (Spoken Word Performer), Mighty Morphing Boogie Rangers (Dance Group), and Jonathan C. Chen (Violinist).
Comedian Walter Hong, a member of Black Sheep Comedy, will serve as Kollaboration DC III’s emcee. Based out of Los Angeles, he is a regular act at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, CA and hosts the only comedy show in Koreatown at Café Bleu. As a comedy sketch actor, he has performed with big names such as Wayne Brady, Cedric the Entertainer, Mark Curry, Kevin Hart, and Daman Wayans. His voice can also be heard on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and the Xbox video game, Bruce Lee: The Quest of the Dragon.
This year’s Kollaboration DC III talent showcase will also welcome the following local guest performers: Atoms Apart (Electronic Duo), SNRG (Hip-Hop Group), Manifest (Rapper/MC) along with Amanda Lee (Singer-Songwriter and Second Place winner of Kollaboration DC 2011), and Lumi Bustamante (Singer-Songwriter and Grand Prize winner of Kollaboration DC 2011).
The headline performer of this amazing talent showcase is Tokyo-based Japanese pop icon, Salia. As the stylish, playful, and spirited front lady of the Japanese pop rock group, Unicorn Table, Salia breaks out on her own as a progressive solo artist with a new dynamic bilingual pop sound and bold, edgy look. With her wide range of musical influences and unmatched vocal prowess, Salia delivers her catchy melodies and clever lyrics with a lively energy that is sure to take command of the entire Kollaboration DC III stage.
