Trusted LASIK Surgeons is pleased to announce that members of its directory of LASIK and cataract surgeons provided their insights and latest research to their peers at the annual Ocular Surgery News meeting in New York City.

Chicago LASIK expert surgeon Dr. Colman Kraff presented his thoughts in answering the question “Are the Boomers Too Old for Laser Vision Correction?” According to Dr. Kraff, “the safety and effectiveness of laser vision correction in baby boomers are similar to the results observed in younger patient population. Patients of the baby boomer age group still need to be given an appropriate informed consent and educated on the issues that may occur more frequently later in life, such as cataracts, dry eyes and the need for reading glasses.” Dr. Kraff practices at the Kraff Eye Institute and treat patients seeking to improve their vision in Chicago, Illinois and surrounding areas.

Boston LASIK and cataract surgeon Dr. Michael Raizman was invited to present his research entitled “Thermokeratoplasty with Collagen Cross Linking for Keratoconus.” He also participated in a panel discussion on the diagnosis and management of a variety of ocular surface diseases. Dr. Raizman practices at Eye Boston, where he and colleague Dr. Peter Rapoza provide patients with top expert vision correction care, including laser eye surgery, IOLs, and cataract surgery.

Dr. Kerry Solomon, a Charleston LASIK and cataract expert surgeon at Carolina Eyecare Physicians who treats patients from all over South Carolina and the United States, spoke about the “Improved precision and predictability with Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery. The laser’s advanced bladeless precision and ability to correct astigmatism translates into better outcomes and may increase the likelihood of seeing well without glasses, making it one of the most important advances in cataract surgery in 20 years."

In “Laser Keratoplasty for Correction of Presbyopia, a procedure currently under FDA study in the U. S., Dr. Salz presented encouraging results from patients treated in Nasau by Dr. Jonathan Rodgers, to reduce their need for reading glasses with an in office procedure using a fiber optic Thulium laser, applied in less than 3 seconds. Dr. James J. Salz Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, University of Southern California. For over 30 years Dr. Salz has been providing patients in Beverly Hills and throughout Los Angeles with LASIK, cataract surgery and other vision correction procedures.

Bill Trattler, a LASIK and refractive expert surgeon serving patients in Miami, Florida, discussed “Corneal Cross Linking for Keratoconus and Post LASIK Ectasia and Wavefront and Optimized Ablations; What Have We Learned in the Last 4 years.” In his presentation, Dr. Trattler provided an overview of corneal collagen cross linking, and pearls for performing an epithelial-on technique, which results in faster visual recovery and less postoperative discomfort. Dr. Trattler shared cases demonstrating significant improvement in corneal shape resulting in improved uncorrected and best-corrected vision. Dr Trattler also moderated a stimulating session of case presentations about cataract surgery to end the meeting. Dr. Trattler practices at the Center For Excellence In Eye Care, which has a long-standing reputation for providing patients throughout South Florida with expert vision care.

Dr. Francis Ma, Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, was a panel participant in a stimulating discussion involving the treatment of corneal infections and he provided important insights into the mechanism of action of the various antibiotics used to both prevent infections before surgery and treat common eye infections. Dr. Francis Mah treats patients seeking LASIK and cataract surgery in Pittsburgh.

In summing up the contributions of the members of Trusted LASIK Surgeons at the OSN meeting, Dr. James J. Salz noted that “This was the largest OSN meeting ever with over 350 eye surgeons in attendance and they were updated in the latest advances in laser assisted cataract surgery, LASIK and PRK vision correction procedures, glaucoma, and treating and preventing eye infections.”
