Lansing, Michigan (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 15, 2009 -- Fourteen NuUnion Credit Union volunteers joined almost 120 downtown employees for the first annual Clean Sweep afternoon. Planned by the City of Lansing and the Lansing Principal Shopping District, Clean Sweep’s goal was to raise public awareness about maintaining a clean environment by picking up trash along the streets of downtown Lansing.
“NuUnion was happy to pitch in,” said Danielle Brehmer, NuUnion’s Director of Marketing. “We’ve called downtown Lansing our home for over 57 years. And, just like the neighborhood where we live, it’s important to show pride in the neighborhood where we work. The Clean Sweep project gave us a chance to team up with other businesses and enjoy some sunshine at the same time.”
Volunteers, working in pairs and wearing bright orange safety vests, gloves and carrying plastic trash bags, searched their assigned blocks within downtown Lansing. The City of Lansing’s mascot, Swish the Fish, was also on hand to help clean up efforts after posing for pictures with volunteers and enjoying a pizza lunch provided for the event.
“We were surprised and really pleased at the number of volunteers who came out to help. There was a lot of excitement at the event and our orange vests sure drew attention from passersby,” said Sara Pawloski, Communications and Marketing Manager for the PSD. She continued, “With so much positive feedback and folks already asking about next year, Clean Sweep is likely to become an annual event.”
NuUnion was established in 1952 and today is nearly 89,000 members strong. With more than $835 million in assets and 14 branches, including eight locations in Lansing, two in Mt. Pleasant, and four in west Michigan, NuUnion believes in providing a unique service experience. Membership is open to anyone in its 28-county service area.
