Renita Alexander is passionate about leadership and has founded a new company, Leadership Unlocked, LLC, to help aspiring leaders, those new to leadership, as well current leaders, unlock their most effective inner leader.
Alexander discovered her passion for leadership about 10 years into a 27-year Air Force career, when she realized what she really enjoyed about being an officer was developing the airman entrusted to her leadership, taking disparate views into account to make a decision, influencing other decision-makers…in other words, leading!
Alexander's leadership experience began early in life; as the oldest of five and the oldest grandchild on both sides of her family, she was often “voluntold” to lead her siblings and/or cousins in some activity, an exercise she describes as "like herding cats but nowhere near as smooth as that EDS commercial from a few years ago…you know, where cowboys are herding cats!" That early leadership experience showed her that responsibility for a team performing a task is near impossible without some authority and taught her to look for other ways to influence others.
But it wasn’t until Alexander was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force that she really began to embrace her innate leadership ability, apply those hard-learned lessons from childhood and hone her leadership skills. She learned the power of relationship in leading others; in fact, she learned that without relationships, she couldn’t be an effective leader. She began to understand the impact of the energy she brought to the workspace and so sought to understand what was needed to ensure her energy was positive. And she began to use that knowledge to develop other airmen.
Alexander's own leadership development was enhanced by being in an organization that places a premium on leadership development; the extensive leadership training and experiential leadership development she experienced throughout her career is unique to the military. Having benefited from such quality training, Alexander was convinced after retiring that she could use that training and experience to help successful managers and supervisors translate their individual success into real leadership. Leadership Unlocked was born of her conviction that anyone can learn to become a better leader.
Leadership Unlocked is a full service, leadership development company focused on helping leaders at all levels unlock their most effective, influential, and powerful selves in order to transform leadership potentiality to leadership reality. Leadership Unlocked facilitates this release of innate leadership skills through a combination of leadership coaching, development and training, as well as assessments.
