“It’s an honor to be considered responsible enough for this position. Relay for Life does so much good for its cause and I’m proud to play a key role.”

Birmingham-based Mutual Savings Credit Union has always placed a high priority on community service. This year, MSCU employees will be representing the credit union at various events and festivals throughout its service area. Many MSCU branch staff members have formed teams for Relay for Life, a fundraising arm of the American Cancer Society, and one MSCU employee has recently been appointed to a prominent Relay for Life council position in Tallapoosa County.

Lesa Roberts, branch manager of the MSCU Alexander City branch, is serving as the Accounting Chairperson for the Tallapoosa Relay for Life Council in 2012. Lesa’s experience with credit unions and her reputation as a reliable manager made her an obvious candidate for the position. Duties of the Accounting Chairperson include collecting donations raised by all area Relay teams and submitting the money to Relay for Life’s regional representatives.

“It’s an honor to be considered responsible enough for this position,” Roberts said. “Relay for Life does so much good for its cause and I’m proud to play a key role.”

Mutual Savings officials see Roberts’ commitment as an example of the presence and dedication all MSCU employees have in their respective communities.

“We know that the Tallapoosa Relay for Life Council has selected the best person as Accounting Chairperson,” said Sonja Purvis, Chief Marketing and Development Officer at Mutual Savings. “Lesa’s involvement with this event and other organizations in Alexander City is impressive and is inspirational to other MSCU employees. We’re proud to have Lesa on our team.”

The 2012 Tallapoosa County Relay for Life theme is “Color a World without Cancer”. The theme plays off of the colors used to identify various types of cancer and all Relay teams are encouraged to decorate their team campsite at the upcoming Relay walk on May 11th at the Alexander City SportsPlex. More information about Relay for Life and this event can be found at the Tallapoosa County Relay for Life Council website.

Lesa Roberts and her MSCU staff will be collecting Relay for Life donations at the Alexander City branch on Lee Street.
