Whereas 10 years ago it tended to be women who sought psychic information, London Psychic Amber Garnet is surprised how many young professional males are now using her psychic services. She says: "In the past only women would admit to visiting a psychic yet many male clients come to see me for reasons including business decisions, relationships, career advice, family issues, major life changes - or simple curiosity. These clients come from all walks of life and all nationalities."

Property development company director, William Rose, 27, is now a devotee despite initial doubts. He says: "I would have dismissed psychic readings as 'hocus pocus' a couple of years ago. I had plenty of misconceptions prior to my visit and initially I expected it to be about 'you'll have four kids, marry twice etc, etc'. I couldn't have got this more wrong."

Paul Favretti, 28, a construction estimator, agrees: "I had always been reluctant to have a psychic reading due to fear. Yet, at the time of my reading with Amber, I had been encountering a particularly frustrating set of circumstances in my personal and working life. Her reading forewarned me of a number of challenging events but the biggest surprise was the sense of calm that it brought. "

Kevin Henry, 39, a personal assistant in a technology sales company, was also initially sceptical. He says: "I feared that seeing a psychic would be waste of time and money and I would still be in the same position as before. I was surprised at how accurate my reading was, about my career, my relationships and my demeanour."

To some visiting a psychic is an integral part of a modern urban lifestyle and it seems that some of the younger generation of working males feel no embarrassment about sharing this information with friends.

James Wilson, managing director of a London-based event planning, concierge and PR company, says: "I was interested in trying something different and I was intrigued by the experience. I feel confident discussing my visit with friends." William Rose agrees: "Society is less macho now and less judgemental. Psychic advice and healing no longer needs to be whispered about."
