Credit card provider MBNA Ireland has seen a surge in applications for it’s new Platinum credit card and it’s no surprise when you look at the marketplace. With the recession and economic instability came the writing off of bad debt by many lenders and subsequent card interest rate rises to make up for the losses. As a result, 0% and low interest rate deals have become rare spectacles for the credit card user.

It is this backdrop that makes the Platinum offering from http://www.MBNA.ie that much more desirable as card-holders have been used to a marketplace where zero percent deals were a thing of the past. The card from the Bank of America subsidiary comes with 10 months interest free borrowing on balance transfers as well as a substantially below average 14.9% APR (variable). A mere 2 years ago, such an offering wouldn’t have stood out from the crowd or even be worth mentioning but in today’s market, where card interest rates are at an average of 18.6%, a 0% offer with 14.9% APR is worth the hype.

To those who don’t already have a card with MBNA Ireland, the new Platinum deal may well be a pleasant surprise but to existing customers, it’s just another great deal from the world’s largest card provider. MBNA has 1 million customers in the Republic Of Ireland and 7 million customers across Europe and is backed by the Bank of America so it has all the resources it needs to make strong offers in the market place.

The Platinum card may be a popular new addition to the range of credit cards offered by MBNA Ireland, but it has already seen great success with it’s range of Affinity cards and partnerships. Tie-ins with Dublin SPCA, Celtic Football Club and other organisations have made the lender a major play in the industry, taking it to 3rd spot based on customer numbers. MBNA as a whole has a policy of continual service improvement and manages to strike a balance between attractive offers and actual substance for the card user.

Recent additions to the service that customers receive include Mobile Banking, online services and paperless statements, the latter being a strong feature of the new Platinum card. Speaking about the card, a Bank of America representative said: “The Platinum card is the smart choice if you’re looking for competitive interest rates”. There’s no doubting this is true, with many other card providers unable to match the offering and customers hungry for low-cost credit.

As many lenders remove their 0% offers from the shop window, financial consumers have been left scratching around looking for somewhere to transfer a high-interest debt. With the introduction of the Platinum card from MBNA Ireland, those consumers now have a product that they can benefit from, not only through low credit card interest rates, but through strong account services as well.
