Maryland Economic Development Association Conference To Focus On Solutions

Aberdeen, MD (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 27, 2009 -- Maryland's economic development community will convene for the 2009 Maryland Economic Development Association's (MEDA) Annual Conference, May 31 through June 2 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge, Maryland. The conference entitled, "Responding to Challenging Times - Solutions for Maintaining Our Economic Base," will focus on the challenges and solutions faced by those responsible for job creation in Maryland.

James F. Pitts, Corporate Vice President and President Electronic Systems, Northrop Grumman Corporation will make the keynote address following a welcome from The Honorable Frank M. Kratovil, Jr., US Congressman; Anirban Basu, Chairman and CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., will provide an Economic Outlook focusing on corporate stress, the labor market and the housing market; and John T. Kennedy, a corporate strategist will present practical tools for leadership and management success.
The Annual MEDA Awards, sponsored by Miles & Stockbridge P.C., will be held during the conference at a banquet on Monday, June 1. Lieutenant Governor Anthony G. Brown will serve as the conference keynote speaker, while special guest, Gary Williams, University of Maryland Basketball Coach will also be on hand to address economic development, higher education and business professionals from across the state of Maryland.
Panelists will discuss Maryland's competitiveness, regional and multi-state partnerships and a number of other issues that that impact job creation, business retention and small business assistance. Members of Governor O'Malley's cabinet will also respond to questions concerning how the federal stimulus package will affect Maryland's present and future.
"This year's MEDA Conference will provide statewide economic developers the means to better assist their businesses customers and help them cope with today's economic challenges. Ultimately the hope is to promote policies and programs that foster valuable and sustainable economic growth," stated J. Thomas Sadowski, President of MEDA.
Other events included in the conference are a tour of downtown Denton, a Main Street Maryland community; a business card exchange and networking event; and the annual MEDA business meeting.
