By writing “Bonding with Our Children in Fun and Easy Ways: Good for Parents and Grandparents Alike!” (published by Archway Publishing), author Marilynn Sambrano, MSW, fulfilled her desire to find ways to grow closer to her two young granddaughters and to provide tips to help others do the same. “With lots of work, I discovered different ways to better bond with my granddaughters. When others saw what I was doing, they wanted to know what I was up to.”
Sambrano says her book is relevant for today’s society, because kids watch too much TV and play with their video games rather than relating to others. “That’s an easy way out, and provides no positive bonding with your youngsters. Try something different: it’s worth it.” Some of her ideas include writing letters to one’s young relatives to be read at a later date; giving the little ones pens and paper so that they can express their feelings without knowing the words they need, and working on fun and easy projects that are inexpensive to make.
Sambrano says her book answers parents’ and grandparents’ questions with how to get close to children and get children away from television. “There are many things that can be done to better bond with children. My book offers different ways to achieve better bonding in positive ways.”
