Mary Rieser of Narconon Georgia, speaks out on WABE radio about K2 and other new drug trends as part of the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking campaign.
By resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. The theme of this year's world drug campaign is "Global Action for Healthy Communities without Drugs." They go on to say, “We can all play a role in promoting health in our communities.”
No one takes this more seriously than Mary Rieser, the Executive Director of Narconon Georgia, an alcohol and drug rehabilitation and education facility. In addition to running her rehab facility, Mary’s dedication leads her to do community outreach work, radio and TV shows, attend drug abuse conventions, and meet with political leaders to help increase awareness of the dangers of drug abuse.
To support the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking campaign Mary was a guest on the Steve Gross radio show on WABE serving 400- 600,000 listeners. She briefed the audience on information from a variety of studies and reports that indicate a rise in drug abuse and drug overdose death throughout the United States--an increase that affects virtually every demographic group.
“Every day I see what drug abuse is doing to our children, parents, friends, husbands and wives as we work to help them overcome their addition. I see the current abuse of K2, despite it being illegal in Georgia, and the latest drug trends as they are happening. It is my hope that spreading the word will help prevent addiction and let those who are addicted know there is drug-free help for them,” says Mary Rieser.
