The Crispus Attucks Cultural Center (CACC) proudly announces Lance Gross and Orlando Jones as featured celebrity guests for the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Film Festival – scheduled June 13-14, 2014 at the Attucks Theatre in Norfolk, Va.

The Mid-Atlantic Film Festival (MAFF), formerly the Mid-Atlantic Black Film Festival, will focus on Hollywood’s digital shift and diversity as it relates to the independent film industry. As one of CACC’s signature events, MAFF will feature a dynamic slate of indie films encompassing a broad range of genres – including drama, comedy, documentary, animation, gospel/Christian, LGBT, and web-based films. Targeting new industry trends and hot topics, the festival will also include a panel discussion hosted by Benita Adams, Chief Executive Officer of the Second Act and former traffic reporter for Channel 13-WVEC. The panel will feature industry experts in the areas of distribution, entertainment law, production and filmmaking.

“We’ve put together a program to include exciting new American indies, international art house fare, eye-opening documentaries, shorts, web series and thrillers. The festival will appeal to every type of movie lover, and we’re excited to turn Hampton Roads on to these incredible films,” said Gail Easley, Executive Director of the Crispus Attucks Cultural Center.

“As part of the festival’s outreach aimed at filmmakers, a free panel discussion will take place at the Attucks Theatre, focusing on diversity and the digital audience. The addition of celebrity guests and industry experts, with a presence known throughout the nation’s largest film festivals, will definitely set the tone for a true cinematic experience that promotes education and innovation,” said Easley.

CACC will kick off the festival with a launch party at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel on Friday, June 13 – providing attendees with an opportunity to network and mingle with special guest, Lance Gross. Festival events will continue on Saturday, June 14 with more than 10 free film screenings at the Attucks Theatre. Announced as part of the “Up Close & Personal” series, is a conversation with actor and producer Lance Gross – hosted by Laila Muhammad of WTKR NewsChannel 3. Gross will talk about his work in television and film and reveal some of his cinematic inspirations. He will also share updates on his new role as Agent Marcus Finley, on the new NBC drama, Crisis. Actor and comedian Orlando Jones, known for his role on MADtv and Dr. Lee in Drumline, will host the MAFF Comedy All-Stars. His graphic, action comedy short film, Tainted Love will also be screened during the show. The festival will close on Saturday evening with a farewell party at Granby Theater.

MAFF sponsors include The City of Norfolk, SunTrust Foundation, Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel, and Granby Theater.
