Mr. Rhythm’s Children’s Plays (http://www.mrrhythmschildrensmusic.com) has debuted as a new all-inclusive easily downloadable program for teachers to use to perform preschool musicals and mini plays for children of preschool age and beyond. All plays include music, a script, which is easily customizable to the needs of students, an invitation, a program, scenery ideas and educational activities.
“Our plays are wonderful teaching tools that are affordable, easy to download, simple for children to learn and provide hours of fun for students,” said Kay Benson, founder of Mr. Rhythm’s Children’s Plays. “The plays are ideal for preschools, kindergarten classes, summer camps, park district programs and special needs classrooms. The preschool musicals make it easy to put on great holiday performances, end-of-the-year plays and graduation plays.”
Mr. Rhythm’s Children’s Plays are musical plays based on events, locations and seasonal themes, and can be modified for groups of two to 60 children. Currently available plays include Mother Goose’s Birthday Party; Zoo Holiday; Picnic; The Farmer’s Red Barn; The Month is October; Let’s Go To The Fair; and Circus.
According to Benson, experts have found that music and movement are important to learning and building confidence in children. “The plays we offer are tried and true, and combine movement and dance with singing,” she said. “My mother originally wrote and pioneered these plays for her visionary preschool, The Children’s Playhouse. Not being satisfied at the time with the available material, she developed the Mr. Rhythm plays, and thus Mr. Rhythm was created. We have captured the very best of her hard work and first-hand experience in our plays.”
Benson’s mother, Jean Clark Laube, played the violin as well as piano, and was a graduate of Ohio State University. “I’m so grateful my mother, who just recently passed away, was able to participate when we began recording the music for the plays,” said Benson. “These plays were very important to her, and it was her lifelong goal to have them be widely available to schools and bring joy to children for years to come.”
Benson is strongly committed to making these preschool musicals available to children of all abilities, including special needs children. “All the plays include guidelines and suggestions for adapting the material for children with cognitive, sensory, auditory processing, verbal expression and problem solving challenges,” she said.
The music of Mr. Rhythm’s Children’s Plays was produced and recorded by Emmy- and award-winning composer Gary Fry. He also composed some of the works. Gary has composed, arranged and produced children’s music for Kid Rhino as well as Warner Kids record labels.
Mr. Rhythm’s Children’s Plays cost $39.95 for the downloadable version, which includes mp3 files along with all the activities and scripts. Or, for $59.95 plus shipping, a printed binder with a CD can be purchased. Both versions can be ordered via http://www.mrrhythmschildrensmusic.com. There is no per performance fee, which is frequently charged by many other companies selling children’s plays, said Benson. Individual songs also may be purchased on the website for $.99.
Mr. Rhythm’s Children’s Plays have been sold all across the U.S., in Canada, and also around the world in countries like Australia and England. “It’s an eco-friendly product since teachers can download all the materials to their iPad or computer and view everything on-screen,” said Benson. “They can print only what they need, such as masks and invitations.”
