Practitioners in the field of psychological type have a new way to distinguish themselves by achieving an advanced level of knowledge in using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) assessment.
The MBTI® Master Practitioner Credential Program provides a formalized structure for those who want to be recognized for their MBTI expertise. The program is a definitive next step for those who are already MBTI® Certified Practitioners. The MBTI Certified designation is for those practitioners who have successfully completed the basic training required to purchase and ethically administer the MBTI instrument.
"Achieving this new credential allows consultants, human resource professionals, educators, coaches, and counselors to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the MBTI instrument and how it may be used to enhance people's lives," said Betsy Styron, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Applications of Psychological Type, Inc. (CAPT).
CAPT, the non-profit publishing, training, and research company co-founded by Myers-Briggs author Isabel Myers, administers and maintains the MBTI® Master Practitioner Credential Program for CPP, Inc., the exclusive publisher and steward of the MBTI instrument.
"This synergistic collaboration with CAPT has enabled us to develop a streamlined and highly accessible program," said Jeff Hayes, President and Chief Executive Officer of CPP, Inc. "We are pleased to offer this advanced credential, and believe it will significantly strengthen the community of people who work with and benefit from the MBTI assessment."
Master Practitioners are held to a higher set of standards requiring them to have current knowledge through continuing education and demonstrated skill in the interpretation of the instrument. Before being awarded the credential candidates must acquire 40 hours of approved MBTI advanced training and 40 hours of experience in using the MBTI assessment with others in group or individual settings.
The program's robust website provides all the informational resources needed to achieve the credential, allowing applicants to self-manage their progress as they work to meet the program criteria. Applicants use the website to apply for entrance into the program, and once accepted, they can use the powerful search feature to locate approved training programs and chart their progress towards completion of all the credential requirements.
Training providers who wish to offer programs for the Master Practitioner credential use the website to submit courses and conferences for approval, and to maintain their public listing of approved courses.
MBTI® Master Practitioners can create and maintain their professional listing on the new MBTI® Referral Network. This effective online marketing channel has a built-in search engine allowing prospective clients to find an appropriate consultant who can help them work with the MBTI® assessment.
"The program has benefits for everyone in the type community," said Styron. "Practitioners now have a clear and distinctive goal for pursuing their advanced training, and they have an effective web-based tool to promote themselves to people who are looking for help with using the MBTI assessment."
The MBTI instrument is administered over 1 million times a year and is considered the most widely used personality assessment of its kind. It is based on well-researched and validated personality theory with proven applications in a variety of fields, including organizational development, management consulting, personal coaching, leadership development and team building, and counseling for individuals and families.
