“With issues like the threat to LIFO accounting practices and energy-efficiency incentives hinging on election outcomes, it’s critical that electrical distributors get out the vote.” -- Ed Orlet, NAED Government Affairs
ST. LOUIS (PRWEB) August 08, 2012
On the heels of a successful 2012 Congressional Fly-In, the National Association of Electrical Distributors is mobilizing its grassroots with resources for helping its 660 members – and their stakeholders – get to the polls this November.
Last month, more than 40 electrical distributors took their voices to Washington D.C. for 135 meetings with their elected officials on Capitol Hill. Now NAED Government Affairs is encouraging the industry to take its voice to the voting booth.
“Those who participated in the Fly-In made a strong, lasting impression on behalf of our industry,” said Ed Orlet, vice president of NAED Government Affairs. “But you don’t necessarily need to go to Washington to affect change. Vote! And encourage your employees, business partners, friends and family members to do the same.”
As part of its “Get Out the Vote” initiative, NAED Government Affairs offers members a number of voter-education resources through its online Government Action Center, including:
- Voter registration information available for each zip code;
- Take-action calendars and memo templates for spreading the word to employees;
- Downloadable posters for raising voter awareness in the workplace;
- Links to information on top issues and local candidates, including their campaign websites and voting records.
The Action Center also features industry advocacy information, letter templates and issues backgrounders to help members stay on top the issues and build strategic relationships with their elected officials.
“The tight races defining today’s political landscape show that not only does every vote count, but also that the outcome of each race impacts our industry,” said Orlet. “With issues like the threat to LIFO accounting practices and energy-efficiency incentives hinging on election outcomes, it’s critical that electrical distributors get out the vote.”
