NAPW Baton Rouge Local Chapter Successfully Gathered for Their First Meeting and Plays Fact or Fiction as an Icebreaker

National Association of Professional Women Baton Rouge Local Chapter had a successful launch meeting in May. The Chapter networked and played fact or fiction as an icebreaker to help members get to know one another.

The NAPW Baton Rouge Local Chapter gathered on May 9th for their professional networking meeting at Drusilla’s Seafood Restaurant located at 3482 Drusilla Lane, Suite D, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. The Chapter had a successful launch, networked, and played fact or fiction.

Trina G. Armstrong, NAPW Baton Rouge Local Chapter President, kicked off the meeting by welcoming members to the first meeting. Trina relayed positive words of wisdom to the group before introductions.

“NAPW provides its members with a venue to promote women-owned businesses. Membership in the association represents an excellent opportunity for women to form partnerships and friendships, while also serving to educate and empower,” said Trina.

Next on the agenda were member and guest introductions. Trina asked attending members to introduce themselves.

“As each member and guest introduces one another I would like for you to conclude with a fact or fiction statement, as a prize will be awarded to the member who correctly identifies the most statements as fact or fiction,” said Trina.

Members began to think of fictional statements that they could pull off while maintaining a poker face.

Trina G. Armstrong is a Finance Consultant and has worked in the healthcare industry for more than fifteen years. Trina’s “fact” was that she has met singer Patti LaBelle and she still has the picture to prove it.

Jodi Campbell is a District Leader at Primerica Financial Services and she believes in teaching people how money works. Jodi’s “fact” is that she has a 22 year old son.

Niki Marie Hansen is President of Bayou Time Babysitting Agency L.L.C. and plans to open a prosthetic clinic for animals. Niki’s “fact” is that she has taught ballroom dancing.

Tiffany Thomas James is a Disaster Recovery Manager with the Governor’s Office of Homeland

Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) and the Owner of Legal Alternatives, LLC. She is also a paralegal by trade. Tiffany’s “fact” is that she has daughter named Tiffany Jr.

Gerrie A. Penn is the Owner at GA Penn. She also does change management consulting at AT&T, Lucent Technology, and Phillips. Gerrie’s “fact”is that she has been kissed on the cheek by the President of New Mexico.

Alison R. Woods holds a BSN and is a Registered Nurse at ARW Medical-Legal Consulting LLC.

She is certified in legal nursing. Alison’s “fact” is that she was able to see another country while standing on a mountaintop in a different country.

Fact or Fiction was an excellent icebreaker and the winner of the prize was Jodi Campbell.

Trina handed out gifts from National to members. She asked members to join the Baton Rouge Local Chapter Page and to upload their photos for a more polished look.

Benefits of Membership were discussed and included Rising Stars which is a scholarship offered to qualifying daughters of NAPW members, Spotlights on community website for Elite or VIP members, Networking, Education, Community Wall, and Network Perks. Members were encouraged to access the website for more details.

NAPW Baton Rouge Chapter was announced in NAPW May newsletter. Members reviewed the contents and features of the newsletter.

The Chapter discussed their goals and charities that they would like to support. Trina requested that members think about what they want to accomplish in 2012 and the charity they want the Chapter to become more involved in. She asked members to bring information to next month’s meeting.

Topics for future meetings in 2012 inviting guest speakers and conducting monthly “business” spotlights. Tiffany Thomas James hopes to secure their first guest speaker.

A Door prize was also handed out and the winner was Niki Marie Hansen.

Trina relayed information regarding the next that is scheduled for June 13 from 6pm – 8pm at Drusilla’s Seafood Restaurant, 3482 Drusilla Lane, Suite D, Baton Rouge, LA 70809.
