The NAPW Birmingham, AL Local Chapter was successfully launched on September 27th with a professional networking meeting at Shelby County Heardmont Park, Senior Center Building, 5252 Cahaba Valley Road, Birmingham. Tammy Shaw, Birmingham, AL Local Chapter President announced the appointment of three new Chapter Board members and members and guests had plenty of time to network and discuss future plans for the Chapter during the launch event.
Tammy kicked off the meeting by welcoming everyone to the centrally located senior center that offers a convenient and cost-free venue for the Chapter’s monthly meetings. She then announced the appointment of the three new Birmingham, AL Local Board Members: Lydia McGill, Vice President; Lynn Bertovic, Secretary; and Denise Jeffries, Treasurer.
“Thank you all for volunteering to take on these important positions and the responsibilities they entail,” said Tammy. “Your efforts will go far in helping the Birmingham, AL Chapter achieve great things this year!”
The President then asked each of the women to introduce herself and share with the group information about her profession and/or career. The networking session proved to be very productive for all of the members and guests in attendance.
“It was definitely a time to recognize the important role each one of us plays in our positions as professional women,” said Tammy. “The atmosphere at the meeting was like a roundtable discussion that allowed us to network with one another.”
She went on to share with the group the NAPW Mission, which is to provide the most advanced forum for members to connect with like-minded professional women to develop innovative business and social relationships. Tammy also discussed the excellent benefits NAPW offers on the Lenovo computers.
“NAPW continuously offers members the resources and benefits necessary to foster professional and personal success,” Tammy said.
Many ideas were expressed to help everyone with their individual growth and members and guests also talked about future plans for the Chapter. Tammy challenged the group to get more involved and there was much discussion on topics for future meetings and on how the Chapter could give back to the community.
“The charity that was discussed was Habitat for Humanity,” said Tammy. “The idea was suggested to help build a home in our local community, perhaps in time for Christmas, so that a family would have a home of their own for the holidays.”
The members who attended the launch meeting were:
Lynn Bertovic who is an Office Manager with Alabama Youth Soccer.
Denise Jeffries who works at Compass as the SVP, Director Data Warehouse.
Lydia McGill who is a Life Coach and Acting Instructor.
