Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on November 26th for a professional networking meeting. Members and guests learned how to identify different personality types and recognize their strengths and limitations through an interactive presentation by Karen Booker, Certified Business & Executive Coach, Certified Independent ‘Color Code’ Trainer, and Certified Instructional Technologist.

The group of professional women met at 6:00pm at an exquisite Italian restaurant and enjoyed a delicious array of appetizers. Attendees networked and Forest Hills Chapter President Anjali Chugh welcomed everyone and introduced the women to the Chapter Board Members. She thanked everyone for helping to make the NAPW Forest Hills Local Chapter a success.
“I thank all members for your participation and significant contribution without which the Forest Hills Local Chapter would not have shown such impressive growth,” said Anjali.

Anjali then introduced the group to the speaker for the evening Karen Booker, who is a member of the Forest Hills Chapter and the Chapter’s Chairperson of the Event Planning Committee.
A Certified Business and Executive Coach, Certified Independent ‘Color Code’ Trainer, and Certified Instructional Technologist, Karen has enjoyed an impressive career in city government. She has held several leadership roles with the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development where she has been the leader and driving force behind HPD Housing Education Services’ long-standing history of developing and implementing complex and collaborative programs aimed at improving the housing conditions, health, and quality of life for City residents. In 2000, Karen founded the BeBe Group, thebebegroup.com, a full-service business development firm based in Manhattan. Karen has a Master degree in Professional Management and Policy Analysis from New School University and is presently pursuing her Ph.D. in Leadership and Organizational Change.

“The subject of Karen’s fascinating presentation was ‘Color Code,’ an assessment that helps in identifying one’s personality ‘color’ or type,” said Anjali.

From the assessment, a ‘Core Motive’ can be deciphered. Karen explained to the group how this awareness helps a person better comprehend his/her strengths and limitations in order to be able to effectively relate to others in one’s life, both at home and at work.

The presentation was in the form of an interactive workshop in which each member or guest completed a two-page multiple choice survey, each answer representing a color, and then matched the score with the relevant color code. Karen then walked the group through the results and discussed the particular traits/significance of each color. She helped members identify the areas of strengths and limitations according to their personality type. For more information, visit colorcode.com.

“The discussion was lively and informative for all of the members and guests,” said Anjali. “I thank Karen Booker for the time and effort she put in to keep the group engaged.”

The Chapter President also made a few announcements regarding upcoming Chapter meetings, the Chapter’s social media pages, and the change of venue for meetings in the coming year. Anjali announced that effective January 2013, Forest Hills Local Chapter meetings will be held at the Kew Gardens Community Center.

“It was a significant breakthrough as finding an appropriate conference space in the area had been a challenge for the Board Members,” said Anjali. “Having a permanent place for meetings would afford members an opportunity to participate in mentoring sessions and rewarding discussions.”

Finally, the Chapter President expressed her gratitude to the NAPW Jamaica and Bayside Local Chapters for collaborating with the Forest Hills Chapter on several occasions. She also spoke to the group of professional women about completing surveys in order to help make the Forest Hills Chapter even better.

“We want to serve our diverse membership as sincerely as we can and for this we need your input and communication. In order for us to best serve our membership, we will be sending out a survey shortly asking you for your opinions, thoughts and suggestions about meeting topics and areas of interest. We look forward to your responses and thoughts,” said Anjali.
