The NAPW Lithonia Local Chapter met on Wednesday, May 1st and Saturday, June 2nd for a professional networking meeting. Both meetings were held at Stonecrest Library.

The May Meeting was held on a Wednesday evening and loyal member, Sharon Jackson attended. Kim stated, "We were able to get to know each other and I consider her a friend and a supportive team member."

“As the President of a new Chapter I am still building the Lithonia chapter and I appreciate the support of all the members who have joined to date.” said Kim.

Kim kicked off the Saturday morning June meeting by welcoming everyone who was in attendance. The June Meeting was held on a Saturday morning. There were three NAPW members and three guests in attendance. Kim was excited to find out that one of the guests will now be joining NAPW.

The ladies welcomed guest speakers Cassandra Johnson and Nancy Delgadillo to the meeting.

Cassandra's presentation was on "Personal Branding 101" and outlined 7 great tips to help the members stay on track with their passions and career objectives.

Cassandra relayed to the group that if they didn't get a chance to get her book, that they may visit her website at destined2bgreat.com to learn more about her business and upcoming events. Her next event is to be held on June 16th and is a “90 Day Life Makeover Experience” and there will be another on June 27th called the “Heartlink Networking Event”. The door prize for this meeting was Cassandra's book.

Nancy's presentation covered "How to use Social Media". Nancy is not only the President of the NAPW South Atlanta Chapter, but also the Executive Director of her own nonprofit organization called My Brother's Keeper Reaching Out, Inc. Nancy sponsors a monthly homeless outreach event with Starbucks. For more information see Nancy's website at mybrothers-keepers.org/.

“After sitting through Nancy's presentation I learned so much about social media, but I never knew all the benefits to it, “said Kim. “I thought I was pretty savvy, but I'm way behind.”

The NAPW Atlanta Chapter started with a North Atlanta Local Chapter and due to the membership growth quickly they then formed a South Atlanta Local Chapter. In March of this year the National Division decided to form a Lithonia Chapter due to the concentration of members in the Lithonia/Conyers areas. Kim was excited about the formation and quickly contacted national about her candidacy.

“I quickly put my name in the hat and was excited to be a presidential candidate,” said Kim.

She accepted the role mainly because she likes to plan and organize events. She also wanted to expand her leadership skills and get an opportunity to meet and help like-minded women enhance both their personal and professional lives.

The North and South Chapters have a quarterly meeting together and this quarter’s meeting will be held at the Double Zero Restaurant in Sandy Springs on Thursday, June 21st at 6:00pm.

It will be a "Headshots Mixer" event, with a photographer, stylist, makeup artist, and jewelry vendor. If there is anyone else who is interested in bringing something to the table they should let Kim know. It promises to be a great turnout with there being an expectation of 50-60 attendees. For anyone who would like to attend to please register at napwatlantaheadshotmixer.eventbrite.com.

Kim discussed the new Rewards Program for all Local Chapters. The winning Chapter of any of these three awards outlined below will be gifted $10,000 spending limit. These funds can be used at the Chapter's discretion for anything pertaining to the Chapter such as attending NAPW National Conference in 2013, bringing in world-renowned speakers, member training, and seminars.

There will be an NAPW Charitable Award. This award will be given to the Chapter that demonstrates the most charitable acts and includes creativity, member involvement, and impact. There will be an NAPW Buzz Award that will be given to the Chapter that produces the most exposure via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Blogging, local and regional print, and TV Media. Lastly, an NAPW Participation Award, which will be given to the Chapter that demonstrates the most growth and retention within their respective Chapter, from acquiring new members to attendance.

The Lithonia Local Chapter plans on being more committed to the community and intends to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk on October 6th. Kim relayed that her and her family have participated in this event for the last three years and she would like to form a team this year with NAPW Atlanta Chapters. The event is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia and will be held at Centennial Olympic Park on Saturday, October 6th form 8:00-11:00am. If anyone is interested in participating in this event they should contact Kim. The Chapter plans on having T-shirts made up at a nominal cost. They plan on holding one to two fundraising events. The team goal is to raise $5,000 for this event.

The July meeting will be a "Meet & Greet" based on member’s feedback. A survey will be going out to all Lithonia Local Chapter members this week.

Kim looks forward to building a thriving chapter with members' help that can promote businesses, careers, and serve in the community.
