Members and guests of the NAPW Naples, FL Local Chapter gathered on September 13th for a professional networking meeting at Shula’s Steak House. The Chapter’s former Board of Directors introduced the new Board, including new Chapter President Bonnie Rae. Attendees also had an opportunity to network and hear a timely presentation from Byron Donalds, previous 19th District U.S. House of Representatives candidate and his wife, Erika. Their talk ‘How to Get Involved in the Political Process at Any Level’ proved to be both educational and relevant given the nation’s upcoming election.
As members and guests walked into the meeting room at the restaurant, they were warmly greeted by Jennifer Delaney, Assistant to Bonnie Rae, the new Chapter President. Jennifer handed out name tags and checked off those who registered online with the sign-in sheets. Jennifer also did a fabulous job of taking photographs throughout the evening of the Board of Directors, guest speakers, and members and guests.
The NAPW Naples, FL Local Chapter networking meeting was opened by Margaret Jacobs, the former Chapter President who is now the new Vice President. Margaret welcomed members, guests, and guest speakers. She then announced the transition of the old Board of Directors, which included herself, Kena Yokes, former Vice President, and Jaci Sanabria, former Secretary, to the Chapter’s new Board, which includes new President Bonnie Rae, Margaret Jacobs, Vice
President, and Jaci Sanabria, who remains the Chapter’s Secretary.
As a way of acknowledging all the former Board did for the Naples, FL Chapter, the new President handed out gifts and framed certificates of appreciation to Margaret and Kena and Angelica Torres, who was the Assistant to the Vice President.
“The new Board would like to wish a heart-filled thanks to Kena Yokes and Angelica Torres for the endless work and service they provided to the Naples, FL Chapter over and above the call of duty!” said Bonnie. “Thank you, thank you, thank you, is hardly the words to describe the appreciation the Naples, FL Chapter feels for you both!”
Introductions of members and guests next ensued followed by Bonnie speaking to the attendees about what the Naples, FL Chapter could expect in the coming ‘new year.’
“We have some very exciting guest speakers lined up for the remainder of this year and into 2013 who will be speaking at our monthly networking meetings,” said Bonnie.
Jaci then addressed the crowd and encouraged the group to check out the positions that are still open on the Board of Directors, Executive Board, and Committee Chairs. She explained how members and guests can get more involved in the Naples, FL Local Chapter.
“It takes minimal time and effort to make a difference for the success of the NAPW Naples, FL Chapter’s new term year,” she said. “I encourage all members to become active in the Chapter.”
As members and guests enjoyed their delicious dinner, the evening’s guest speakers, Byron and Erika Donalds took the floor with their educational presentation, ‘How to Get Involved in the Political Process at Any Level.’ The former Candidate for the 19th District U.S. House of Representatives and his wife distributed informational hand-outs titled ‘Taking Control of Your Politics’ to members and guests, which outlined step-by-step the different levels of government including local, state, and federal. They explained each level and what it does, and talked about how one can get more involved in politics. Byron and Erika offered the following tips:
Step #1: Be informed by taking 20 minutes a week listening to or reading news and talk to your political friends. Some examples outlined on the informational sheets were national news sites, action items, as well as county, state, and federal websites to read, review, and take action.
Step #2: Attend political groups. Find out more about the different types of parties and join an active group.
Step #3 Get Involved. Show how to support what you stand for and believe in.
“Erika and Byron did a fabulous job of captivating and keeping the group interested. It was a pleasant experience to learn more about how politics,” said Bonnie. “Wonderful job Erika and Byron!”
Their presentation was followed by a lively Q&A session, which took place as members and guests enjoyed a delicious dessert.
