Highlights of the general meeting included the Chapter’s continued efforts to support the U.S. military by collecting toiletries that will be shipped overseas twice a year, as well as its new commitment to a local charity, Ready for Success.
Sabra Brown, President of the NAPW Minneapolis-St. Paul (NAPW-MSP) Chapter, kicked off the networking event by welcoming the group of professional women and inviting them to introduce themselves to the audience.
“We started the meeting off with a lively networking session. Members and guests were excited about making new connections,” said President Brown.
Many members expressed interest in learning more about NAPW’s educational resources such as the National Seminars Group/Star 12 upcoming webinars and seminars in the local area. A discussion commenced about the use of these courses in members’ resumes.
The group of professional women then discussed some of the ways the NAPW-MSP Chapter is giving back. It was agreed by all members that the Chapter will continue to collect toiletries to send to deployed military personnel in Southwest Asia at every meeting.
Care packages will be shipped twice a year in May and November to coincide with winter and summer holidays. Members were encouraged to bring female-related products to fill the care packages.
“The Chapter is committed to supporting our brave servicewomen overseas,” said President Brown. “We have 'adopted' a female military member from each of the branches of the armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marines).”
To date, NAPW-MSP Chapter members have donated more than 300 items to the local Dress for Success program.
Going forward, donations will be given to a local clothing charity called Ready for Success. This will include any clothing collected at the next Simply Networking event to be held on September 28th at Abby’s Bargain Boutique, 1110 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN, from 3:00 to 6:00pm. This will be a charity clothing drive with a goal of more than 100 pieces.
Future Simply Networking events will be hosted by individual members at their offices or a place of their choosing. Any member who wants to host a networking event must get their details to the President no later than October 15th.
She will compile a calendar of events for 2014 by November 1st and will coordinate an “upcoming meetings/networking” postcard to be sent to members and guests no later than December 1st.
The NAPW-MSP Chapter is planning a Women’s Career Fair at Augsburg College in April. More details will follow at a future meeting when member/coordinator Kris Pearson is present.
Chapter member Phyllis Burdette, managing partner at Burdette Knoll LLC – CPAs, has volunteered the use of her office space (5775 Wayzata Blvd., Suite 610, St. Louis Park, MN) for the Chapter’s Thanksgiving and holiday pot luck socials (November 16th and December 18th, respectfully).
Member Angela Bruer-Balouch volunteered to create a communications listing for the group with home e-mails so we can reach out to members quicker.
Chapter members were encouraged to use the Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin Pages to inform other members about upcoming events and promotions. Many members also expressed interest in providing discounts for other NAPW members.
Attendees talked about posting coupons on the Chapter’s social media sites.
The next NAPW-MSP Chapter meeting will be October 16th at 3 Tiers Bakery at 5011 34th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN, from 5:00 to 6:00pm.
