It’s not about winning races it’s about branding a company’s product ... Michael Onderko, Team Owner, Onderko Motorsports
Nazareth, PA (PRWEB) July 11, 2012
The Onderko Motorsports team is heading to Pocono International Raceway in the foothills of PA July 15th and 16th in search of road course win number two. Team owner Michael Onderko talked about the Summit Point win and the teams plans for Pocono, “I was very pleased with how the team performed at Summit Point. We hadn’t had an opportunity to shake the car down, so with a minimal amount of seat time Justin did a great job figuring out what the car needed to get us that all important first win. Having a driver that can read what a car is doing like Justin can is such tremendous help when making changes.”
I asked Onderko what he thought his chances were going to a track like Pocono with those long straight’s as part of Pocono's Long Course, “While Pocono does not lend itself well to a car like ours, I think we can make up time once we get on the north course section because of how our car handles on those tight turns.” Onderko continued, “A win at Pocono would be nice, but we are focusing on Nationals in September at Mid-Ohio. We need to work on a few things this weekend. This weekend will be a weekend of changes and making sure we get the information we need to be as competitive as possible for Nationals, that’s the teams focus for Pocono.”
While the sponsor front for Onderko Motorsports has been good this year, the team is still searching for additional 2012 sponsors, especially for Nationals. The team was able to capture its first international sponsor, OC2interactive for 2012 and the Onderko Motorsports team owner talked about what his organization has to offer potential sponsors, “We have an excellent Public Relations group, our folks are constantly looking for opportunities to promote our sponsors and working with the sponsors to ensure a good ROI on their investment. We focus on the sponsor implementation plan and what the sponsor is really looking for from a motorsports partnership. We need to understand the audience the sponsor wants to capture and how they want to capture it. Now that we have OC2interactive on board we’ll have a tremendous web presence along with a fantastic social media network. That right there goes a long way when trying to promote a sponsor and brand a sponsors product or service.” Onderko does acknowledge that the team is searching for visionaries, businesses who can see past today’s economy and look to the future. “That’s what led us to OC2interactive, we saw Martin O’Connor and his team as visionaries and that they were able to see past the “today” and recognize that a motorsports partnership has value and can be used on many fronts to promote his business. What I have to do as a team owner is be innovative in how I talk and promote my team to companies. It’s not about winning races it’s about branding a company’s product and using racing, the driver and the car as the tools to do that. We are here to help them sell their product or service.” Onderko highlighted another example, Race Against Drugs, “Our charity Race Against Drugs is a perfect example of using motorsports to get your message across. That organization saw a long time ago that the lure of racing, the speed and the excitement was a perfect way to talk to our nation’s youth about living a drug free and healthy life style. The kids love racing, the sights, the sounds and to them the drives are larger than life, real life hero’s as it were, you have a captive audience. Marketing101.”
One important factor that Onderko does want to make sure is known about his team is that the team and their sponsors are a family as and as a family they help each other. Many of the Onderko Motorsports sponsor’s have opened new business doors not because they had their name on the side of a race car but because they became part of the family.
