The vision of the National Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (NCEI) is to celebrate the living spirit and untold stories of great entrepreneurs, inventors and innovators as it inspires and supports the next generation to solve global challenges across time, language and culture.

DETAILS

● NCEI fosters entrepreneurship, invention and innovation by all Americans. In addition, NCEI encourages the creation and deployment of entrepreneurial solutions to global challenges.

● The ultimate objective is to create a prominent, sustainable presence for entrepreneurship and innovation on, or near, the National Mall in Washington D.C. Functioning as a “museum in reverse,” the center will both celebrate the past and envision the future. The location would include the following: interactive and experiential exhibit spaces; imagination-inspiring events; educational collaborations; and design labs—all accessible year-round to the 25 million people who visit the National Mall every year and to many more online.

● Programs and events will be presented as an opportunity to experience the creativity and ingenuity around the nation’s capital. Upcoming programs include: Makers on the Mall, a family friendly showcase with a mission to entertain, inform and inspire “makers” of all types; and Entrepreneurship as Citizenship, a redesign of the class trip for the 21st century. The Center will work with school districts to inspire our next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs about their role in America’s future.

● The National Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation will officially launch at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) America meeting on June 14, 2013 in Chicago. CGI’s mission, to turn ideas into action, provides an ideal platform to kick-off NCEI’s initiatives.

QUOTES

“According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor in 2012, 43 percent of Americans see opportunities for entrepreneurship in their lives, and 56 percent of Americans believe they’re capable of starting a new business—even in trying economic times. We rely on these new businesses to add jobs and grow our economy. NCEI exists to inspire and support these entrepreneurs and promote the future of American innovation.”

“The principals in our initiative started over three years ago with a simple question—where is entrepreneurship and innovation celebrated in the United States? We want the 25 million people who visit Washington, D.C., every year to experience, front and center, the creative dynamism that is at the heart of the American character and that built the American economy.”
