New York, New York (PRWEB) June 26, 2012

A trench collapsed at a Staten Island construction site and killed a 29-year-old worker, reported The New York Times (6/21/2012).

The worker was helping to replace a pipe in a six foot deep trench outside a shopping plaza. The sides gave way and buried him when was inside the trench, said The New York Times.

“The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and New York State Law set safety standards for the construction and maintenance of construction site trenches. A failure to comply with these standards can too easily cause a trench collapse accident in New York,” said construction accident lawyer David Perecman, chairman of the Labor Law committee for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and lecturer on construction accident law.

In this case, a preliminary investigation of the New York construction accident indicated that the trench lacked necessary wood bracing, said a spokeswoman for the Buildings Department in The New York Times.

“Trench collapses are among the most feared hazards in the construction industry,” New York construction accident lawyer Perecman said.

In New York, say construction accident lawyers at The Perecman Firm, victims who suffer serious injury or accidental death because of a trench collapse or unsafe trenching practices on a worksite almost always have a right to file a New York lawsuit against the negligent parties and companies involved.
