Narconon Gulf Coast, an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center, encourages parents to admit their loved ones who may be struggling with alcohol or drug addiction into rehabilitation over the holidays, which is a critical time for addicts. From Thanksgiving to News Years Day addiction intensifies as the pressure to party and use is at its peak. If addicts are alienated from family, it is even worse for them as this is the time of year when families traditionally gather together.
“We understand the dangers for addicts that increase this time of year, yet we talk with many parents who want to send their child to rehabilitation but want to wait until after the holidays. Unfortunately, the waiting could prove fatal for the child as their next hit could end their life,” says Debbie Ross, Executive Director Narconon Gulf Coast. “The holidays are about peace, joy, giving and being together safely as a family, but for someone addicted to drugs or alcohol, this is next to impossible to experience.”
The all-too real story of addiction and unexpected death was poignantly and tragically told this fall in a 2-part episode of ABC’s Private Practice where one of the doctors, Amelia, was addicted to the prescription drug Oxycodone. The doctors in the practice staged an intervention for Amelia after she returned from a 12-day drug-binge with her boyfriend. Amelia and her boyfriend decided to get clean, get married and have children. They were going to admit themselves to rehabilitation the next day, but decided to get high one last time. Amelia woke up in the morning to find her boyfriend lying next to her, dead from an overdose.
Previously an emergency room nurse for 35 years, Ross has seen the often fatal results of addiction first-hand and encourages parents not to wait.
“For the safety of your loved one and your own peace of mind, don’t wait until after the holidays to admit them to rehab. In fact, don’t wait one more day. At our facility parents can visit their loved one in a beautiful setting for the holidays knowing they are getting help. We also have corporate rates for parents in local hotels. Giving your loved one the gift of rehabilitation this year could not only potentially save their life, it could give them many happy, productive years of a drug-free life,” says Ross.
The Narconon drug rehabilitation program at Gulf Coast has a 90.2% success rate and is unique from other rehabilitation programs because it is entirely drug-free. The Narconon drug rehabilitation program does not use drugs or medications to get people off drugs. It does use specific nutritional support and a sauna detox program to thoroughly handle both the physical and mental aspects of addiction, including cravings. The program is a social education model of rehabilitation, where addicts become “students” of the Narconon life skills curriculum and learn to live productive drug-free lives.
