Network Data Security is Top Concern for IT Professionals, CompTIA Web Poll Reveals

Other worries include user error, storage and support

Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. (Vocus/PRWEB ) September 2, 2008 -- Network data security is the top network-related concern of information technology (IT) professionals according to the results of a recent web poll conducted by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).

Nearly one-third of IT professionals who responded to the poll - 32.8 percent - said securing their networks and data is their main concern regarding their organization's network.

"Organizations continue to invest more resources in securing applications, data and networks, and with good reason," said Todd Thibodeaux, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA. "Every security breach has the potential to materially impact the business, through lower employee productivity, lost revenue, higher costs, negative publicity, or loss of customer confidence. It's incumbent on all organizations, regardless of size or industry, to implement a multi-layered approach to security that leverages both technology and education."

Human error by network users ranked as the second biggest concern. It was cited by 19.6 percent of poll respondents.

Placing third in the list of top network concerns were data storage and the ability to hire and keep quality network support staff. Each was cited by 12.1 percent of web poll respondents.

Rounding out the top network concerns were having current network technologies (6.4 percent), having reliable and secure wireless access (5.7 percent) and network virtualization (3.7 percent).

The web poll was conducted June 3 through August 25 and drew 934 responses.
