Only two weeks after its launch, Newman's Own® 2006 California Chardonnay receives top honors, winning Best in Show White at the San Antonio Wine Competition. Slated to hit stores this week, Newman's bright and refreshing Chardonnay, crafted from select grapes in Monterey, Calif., has made a splash even before landing on most retail shelves.

Slated to hit stores this week, Newman's bright and refreshing Chardonnay, crafted from select grapes in Monterey, Calif., has made a splash even before landing on most retail shelves.
"Wine was the only thing missing at dinnertime. Now the meal is complete," says Paul Newman, founder of Newman's Own®. Newman was instrumental in choosing the qualities of the Chardonnay, the same way he has been with the entire line of Newman's Own® gourmet foods. "He trusts his palate entirely," says Charles Bieler of Rebel Wine Co., a collaboration of Three Thieves and Trinchero Family Estates, who worked closely with Newman to create these premium wines. Like all other Newman's Own® products, Paul Newman and the Newman's Own® Foundation will donate all profits and royalties after taxes to educational and charitable purposes.
The lightly oaked Chardonnay, which imparts intense fruit flavors of apple, pear and citrus, is being launched alongside a full-bodied Newman's Own® 2006 California Cabernet Sauvignon. Both wines have caught the attention of judges at national wine competitions during these first weeks, garnering significant medals in addition to the Best in Show White for the Chardonnay. The wines are available nationally and have a suggested retail price of $16 per bottle.
