Sofie’s gorgeous, expressive singing is a revelation - The Big Takeover
After their debut album earned them attention in The New York Times, L Magazine, and Time Out New York, The NowhereNauts released their second album, Warned You, in January 2013. There’s no question that Warned You reflects some of the band’s darker and heavier influences like The Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, and Joy Division. But Tony Franco (drums), Anders Kapur (bass, vocals), Hunter Lombard (guitar, vocals), and Sofie Kapur (vocals) aren’t afraid to remind listeners that music is supposed to be fun and dance-worthy. Despite their tender age, The NowhereNauts have formed a musical chemistry through nearly a lifetime of playing music together before Tony, Anders, Hunter, and Sofie honed their skills working with producer Kevin March (Guided By Voices) and Carl Glanville (U2, Cyndi Lauper, Counting Crows).
The NowhereNauts have an infectious blend of beautiful harmonies, hard driving beats, and bass grooves on Warned You that sound like they could be straight from the ‘80s, with modern tinges tossed in to create something simultaneously nostalgic and fresh. Tracks like “Warned You,” “Hideaway,” and “Call My Name” are unquestionably radio friendly, but there isn’t any filler on Warned You. Whether it’s transitioning from clean melodies to crunchy shredding worthy of Dinosaur Jr., this foursome will get your heart pumping with every track.
Warned You was recorded at Avatar Studios and Stratosphere Sound. The album was mixed at Radio City Media Group by Carl Glanville. It was mastered By Greg Calbi (The Ramones, The Talking Heads, and Patti Smith) at Sterling Sound.
