OSCEAN Consortium Hosts Breakfast Celebrating Local Employers for National Disability Employment Awareness Month
The Orange/Sullivan Employment Alliance Network (OSCEAN), a consortium of non-profit and public human service agencies that partner together to further employment for persons with disabilities, will be honoring one regional business winner and seventeen local businesses on October 2nd this year.
Orange and Sullivan Counties, NY (Vocus/PRWEB ) September 24, 2009 -- The Orange/Sullivan Employment Alliance Network (OSCEAN), a consortium of non-profit and public human service agencies that partner together to further employment for persons with disabilities, will be honoring one regional business winner and seventeen local businesses on October 2nd this year. Honorees are recognized all across the country in October for their leadership in workforce development and increasing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month or "NDEAM". It is a federally-designated month and an annual opportunity to recognize businesses (public or private) that have taken steps to improve diversity representation in their workplace. It is also the month for statewide programs that highlight the abilities and skills of Americans with disabilities and the businesses that recognize this vast pool of talent. Its aim is to remove the attitudinal barriers and false assumptions about what people with disabilities can and cannot do, thereby enabling the productive employment of qualified people with disabilities.
The official theme for the 2009 October National Disability Employment Awareness Month is "Expectation + Opportunity = Full Participation". This can be accomplished by reinforcing the "Expectation" that individuals with disabilities have a variety of talents and skills to contribute, and by providing them with employment "Opportunities" to demonstrate their abilities, will result in their "Full Participation" in the workforce.
Local Orange and Sullivan County businesses will be recognized at a breakfast event on Friday, October 2nd at Kuhl's Highland House in Middletown, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Representatives from the community are welcome. There is no cost to attend, however reservations are required.
Andrew Taylor of Learner First is the keynote speaker for the breakfast. He is an inspirational speaker who will combine his professional experience with personal life challenges with a disability.
The MC of the morning is Peter Ladka, former OSCEAN Award Winner and President of Parse3, an equal opportunity, custom software and web development company in Warwick, NY.
All are welcome to come and learn from other businesses, how every business can benefit by hiring from this talented pool of workers with all educational and skill levels.
