Ray Lambert, superintendent of leading virtual charter school, Ohio Connections Academy (OCA), was named School Leader of the Year by the Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools (OAPCS). Lambert received the award during the Association’s 2010 State Conference on Nov. 12, 2010, for his contributions to increasing student achievement and enhancing the quality of education within Ohio’s charter schools.
“OAPCS’ State Conference Awards are designed to recognize and honor excellence in the charter schools movement,” said Bill Sims, president and CEO of OAPCS. “This honor speaks to Ray Lambert’s outstanding leadership of Ohio Connections Academy and the high-quality program being offered to Ohio students. OAPCS is pleased to recognize Ray’s leadership, dedication and tireless efforts to provide students with an exceptional education experience.”
Lambert’s honor will be added to OCA’s growing list of achievements and success measures, which serve as valuable quality indicators for families considering virtual school options in Ohio. In addition to the School Leader of the Year award:
Lambert has been a part of the charter schools movement since 1999 and has led OCA since 2004. Under his leadership, OCA has grown from 150 students in grades K-8 to more than 2,700 students enrolled in grades K-12. He also led the school to the “Excellent” rating from the Ohio Department of Education for increasing student achievement and exceeding state standards for quality for two consecutive years.
“Ray is focused on student achievement, continually challenging his staff to move students forward,” said Christy Lamb, assistant high school principal for OCA. “Ray is patient, fair, consistent and compassionate, and his leadership has moved OCA to excellence. School Leader of the Year is a well-deserved honor.”
The Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools is a non-profit, membership organization that is dedicated to providing children with greater educational opportunities by enhancing and sustaining quality charter schools. OAPCS’ State Conference is an annual gathering of charter school teachers, leaders, school board members and stakeholders to share ideas, insights, best practices, challenges and educational victories. The theme of this year’s conference was Aspire to Greatness.
