Family Summer Getaways in Ontario - Don't Forget the Sand

Camping guru, Kevin Callan, lists his top 5 family friendly beaches of Northern Ontario, Canada

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) June 2, 2008 -- "All families intuitively know that resorts and campgrounds can have all kinds of fun family getaways, but if there's no beach to play on then you might as well pack your bags and go home", says family camping guru Kevin Callan, "Northern Ontario has some of the best sandy beaches in North America; and even boasts the longest fresh water beach sites in the world." Lake Superior Provincial Park is the obvious choice when it comes to world-class northern Ontario beach sites. But there are also lesser-known parks inland from Superior, places such as Windy Lake and Martin River Provincial Park, which have beach sites measuring over one and a half kilometres long.

So, make sure you avoid major disappointment and organize your summer's northern Ontario getaway around some of Kevin's top family beaches. Places where the kids can swim and play while the parents sunbathe and take in a dramatic sunset.

Top 5 Northern Ontario beaches:

1. Blue Lake Provincial Park: The beach is the main attraction to this remote park, with its brilliant white sand stretching out along the striking clear and turquoise "blue" lake.

2. Neys Provincial Park: This two-kilometer cobble-stone beach front stretches out alongside the north shore of Lake Superior and is perfect for evening strolls watching the sunset into the expanse of Lake Superior.

3. Pancake Bay Provincial Park: The parks main attraction is not only the three-kilometer beach, made of the finest white sand found along the shores of Lake Superior, but also the warm water available for swimming - a rarity for Superior's usual icy-cold temperatures.

4. Halfway Lake Provincial Park: With a full one-kilometer long beach, complete with warm water that remains shallow a good distance out from shore, its no wonder family campers have called this park one of the jewels of the north.

5. Martin River Provincial Park: Apart from being a perfect family friendly beach, having a magnificent backdrop of ancient three-hundred year old pine gives this park an advantage over all the rest.
