Lackawanna County Launches New Open Government Research Center Online
The Lackawanna County Board of Commissioners have publicly launched a new online open government research center. All public meeting information, such as agendas, supporting documents, votes, attendance and more are now available for public research and perusal.
Scranton, PA (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 5, 2009 -- The Lackawanna County Board of Commissioners have publicly launched a new online open government research center. All public meeting information, such as agendas, supporting documents, votes, attendance and more are now available for public research and perusal.
The online research center is the public front-end to the software system that manages and tracks Lackawanna County's board and committee meetings. The system, Legistar, was implemented one year ago and has already generated numerous savings for the county.
"(Legistar) is something we want to do to make government more open," said Chairman Corey O'Brien. "What this software does is make the meeting calendar, agendas and minutes, agenda items and the supporting documentation for the agenda items… available for public access on the website."
In addition to the open government benefits of fully searchable legislative business, the Legistar system also centralizes and automates the clerical workflow involved in creating and maintaining legislative records such as meeting agendas, minutes, attendance and votes.
Said O'Brien of the centralization, "it will streamline internally the process for putting our agendas together - getting resolutions, getting all the supporting documentation from all the different areas in county government."
The system is also used by Allegheny County, the City of Pittsburgh and the City of Philadelphia among many others nationwide.
