Verona, Italy (PRWEB) December 09, 2011
Despite the difficult political times, we would like to shed the spotlight on another facet of Italy: the enduring excellence, richness and diversity of its wines. WINE SPECTATOR, the foremost authority in the wine industry has partnered with VINITALY for the first time. At a press conference attended by some of Italy’s most renown producers, including Marchesi di Frescobaldi, Tenuta di San Guido, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, Gaja and Antinori. The attendee list sounded like the who's who of great Italian wine makers hence the showcase's title seem to be a proper fit for the premier event as Wine Spectator and Vinitaly revealed the first 80 names of selected producers that would take part in OperaWine: “Finest Italian Wines, 100 Great Producers”
In this context, VeronaFiere has partnered with the American publication to bring together on March 24th, 2012 in Verona at the magnificent Palazzo della Ragione, 100 of Italy’s great producers. “OperaWine" (http://www.operawine.it) is an innovative project, designed to cultivate knowledge on the excellence and diversity of the finest Italian wines and simultaneously give wine lovers the chance to experience unique, historical and cultural sites within the Italian peninsula. Exclusive initiatives, such as this premiere Grand Tasting, related to Italian wine, food and culture aims to encourage international operators, journalists, sommeliers, wine educators, and high profile wine aficionados alike to explore the fascinating history and background of Italian wine production.
“The objective of the tasting is to showcase the quality and diversity of Italy’s wine producers across the breadth of the country’s wine regions. Of course, no group of only 100 producers can be comprehensive, or exhaust the bounty of Italian wines. But the aim is to offer a representative sampling that will accurately reflect the heritage and achievements of Italian vintners,” said Bruce Sanderson, Senior Editor, Wine Spectator, at the press conference, speaking of the selection criteria for which the magazine was solely responsible.
“Through initiatives such as OperaWine’s Grand Tasting, Vinitaly is aiming to increase the presence of international operators and the participation of the international press in Verona,” said Giovanni Mantovani, CEO VeronaFiere. “In addition, developing knowledge on the excellence of Italian wines will help to understand their diversity and specificity by promoting the image of Italian wine as an expression of an exclusive territory in terms of landscape, historically and culturally, creating increased brand awareness emphasizing its ties with the territory."
The enduring wine affair thus continues from Verona to Moscow, the US and Hong Kong (all stops on the Vinitaly 2011 Tour) and now back to Verona, where the rest of the world will converge on this grand occasion and fall in love all over again with Italian wines.
