Pearson Test of English Academic Recognized by Texas Christian University For Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions of International Students
TCU Joins Growing List of Institutions Choosing New
State-of-the-Art Measure of English Language Ability
Fort Worth, Texas, and New York (PRWEB) June 2, 2009 -- Texas Christian University (TCU) announced today that it will recognize Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic), the company's computer-based English language test that measures the English language proficiency of candidates for admission who are non-native English speakers. PTE Academic will be accepted by both TCU's undergraduate school and graduate school of business for international students applying for admission to the university.
For nearly 140 years, a commitment to creating a world-class, values-centered university experience has guided TCU leaders at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Each year, more than 400 international students from 85 countries attend TCU.
"At the heart of the TCU experience, for all of our undergraduate students, is our core curriculum, which gives them the chance to explore the liberal arts in the context of the past, helps them develop an awareness of global and cultural issues and builds a foundation for becoming responsible citizens and ethical leaders," said Karen Scott, Director of Undergraduate International Admission, TCU. "We welcome students from around the world to be a part of this world-class academic experience, and PTE Academic will provide us with an accurate way to measure their English language ability and ensure that they have the proficiency to be successful at TCU."
The nationally ranked Neeley School of Business at TCU is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the premier accrediting agency for degree programs in business. Neeley's accounting program is one of only 200 schools worldwide to be accredited by AACSB, and is consistently recognized among the best business schools in the country by The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, Forbes, Fortune, U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review.
"The Neeley School of Business faculty shares a commitment to developing ethical leaders who complete their graduate degrees with a global perspective that will help them shape the world of business," said Hoai P. Nguyen, Counselor/Coordinator, Recruiting and Admissions, TCU Neeley Graduate Programs. "Admitting a diverse student population is one of the ways that we accomplish this critical part of our mission. PTE Academic will provide us with a valuable tool to support our admissions process for international students."
PTE Academic is endorsed by the prestigious Graduate Management Admission Council® (GMAC®), owner of the Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®), and will be launched in October 2009.
As the worldwide global leader in publishing and assessment for education, Pearson combined the power of international test development, in-depth research and proven, proprietary automated scoring technologies to develop PTE Academic. The test will fill a critical need by providing a state-of-the-art test that accurately measures the English language Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing abilities of non-native speakers.
PTE Academic will deliver real-life measures of test takers' language proficiency to universities, higher education institutions, government departments and other organizations requiring academic-level English. The test is designed to predict more efficiently the ability of test takers to function in an English-oriented academic environment.
"Through academic programs, diverse faculty and student body, TCU and the Neeley School of Business demonstrate a deep commitment to providing students with a world-class educational experience," said Mark Anderson, President, Pearson Language Tests. "We are honored that TCU has joined our growing list of prestigious institutions to recognize PTE Academic at both the undergraduate and graduate levels."
