There are certain restaurants in Illinois that stand out among the best of the best, and thanks to an endorsement by PBS, representatives with Panino’s Pizzeria say they are proud to be listed as one of those restaurants.

Panino’s Pizzeria was named as one of the top pizzerias in Illinois by PBS. The listing for Illinois’ top pizza places came after PBS asked its fans to nominate their favorite spots for the best pizza in Illinois. PBS and its member stations are America’s largest classrooms, the nation’s largest stage for the arts, and a trusted window to the world.

Panino’s has an impressive history of being named among the best of the best of pizzerias in and around Chicago. In 2012, ABC 7 Chicago featured Panino’s Pizzeria as having authentic Neapolitan pizza. The article stated, “There are, of course, dozens of places to get a great pizza in Chicago, but the Hungry Hound has been discovering a few authentic, Neapolitan pies lately.

“We consider it an honor for fans of PBS to vote us as one of their top pizza restaurants,” owner Bruno Brunnetti said of his pizzeria, which competed recently in the International Pizza Expo’s World Pizza Games held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, their first completion placing in the top 10 overall in the Italian Neapolitan Pizza Division.

Panino’s Pizzerias are owned by three pizzaiolo’s: Bruno Brunetti, Gino Rago, and Leonardo Rago, whose culinary training began at a young age. They use a “mother strain” of a yeast starter for their pizza dough, which comes from Italy. It originally goes back to the 1800s where the first pizza was made.
