New findings clearly point toward reducing or eliminating alcohol consumption as an effective strategy toward preventing cancer development.
US mortality data was analyzed by Dr. Timothy Naimi, at the Department of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine. He and his colleagues discovered that alcohol led to roughly 20,000 cancers deaths each year, which equates to around 3.5% of all US cancer deaths.
The risk to women was particularly pronounced with 6,000 deaths (around 15% of all breast cancer deaths) being attributed directly to alcohol.
Earlier studies have revealed that the consumption of alcohol raises risks for cancers of the liver, esophagus, throat, and mouth. Additional, more recent research also demonstrated that alcohol contributes to the development of colon cancer and rectal cancer.
Dr. Naimi said that the connection between alcohol and cancer “is not widely appreciated by the public.” He added that the relationship is “underemphasized” by physicians.
“The culture of alcohol abuse in the US is something that should be examined very closely,” says Pax Prentiss, CEO of the world-renowned Passages, “Although some people can drink a glass of wine with dinner and maintain a healthy relationship with alcohol, others struggle to stay within moderate limits. We have helped thousands of people with our holistic alcohol treatment program and also offer meaningful guidance to those grappling with illegal substances and abuse of prescription medication. We are honored to work with everyone who comes through our doors. If anyone is looking for a holistic method to overcome their addiction without using the 12-step method, Passages Malibu can be a refreshing and effective alternative.”
The Passages Malibu Addiction Treatment Center was recently named the “Number 1 Treatment Center in the World” by Healthcare Global magazine and “One of The Most Luxurious Place to Dry Out by Forbes magazine.
