Parents wanting to recreate their childhood experiences for their own families while keeping an eye on the budget are heading out in their motorhomes and campgrounds are noticing. From free Wi-Fi to arcade games, miniature golf courses and fitness centers, RV campgrounds are catering to people who want a complete family experience without having to spend a lot of money.

In Cobb, about 100 miles north of San Francisco, the owner of the town's Yogi Bear Park spent nearly $500,000 to upgrade the park's miniature golf course. At the Flying Flags RV Resort in Buellton, northeast of Santa Barbara, work crews are completing $1.3 million in improvements, including a new fitness center, luxury cabins and upgrades to the campground's RV sites, landscaping and electrical system, reports the L.A. Times.

In San Diego, Campland on the Bay is building a skate park and leash-free dog park. Swimming pools, wading pools and hot tubs are also being improved across various California campgrounds. Outdoor and family activities are promoted as well as indoor technology such as cable TV and Wi-Fi.

There are 16,000 campgrounds across the United States on both public and private lands. "While the economy is still falling, the desire to see new places isn't," says Clint Ethington of Pedata RV. "RV Campgrounds are no longer simply a place to rest your head; they're now designed for family entertainment and escape from the day to day."
