RVers Tout the Recreational Vehicle as Much More than a Means of Recreation: Consumers Turn to the Recreational Vehicle Industry in Times of Need

The recent request from Governor Rick Perry of Texas for $300 million to create an alternative housing program for victims of Hurricane Ike (as a supplement to the existing FEMA program) is just one indication that the Recreational Vehicle industry is becoming more than just a means of recreation. It's being used as a fallback in emergencies, a housing replacement during times of natural disaster and economic hardship, and a preventive measure for those planning ahead for times when they may need to be prepared for any emergency.

Phoenix, AZ (Vocus/PRWEB ) January 21, 2009 -- Clint Ethington of Pedata RV Center has had several consumers mention to him that they see their RV purchase as a means of being prepared for the future. While some stock up on food storage and others have emergency stores of water and others keep stashes of cash…there are those who are prepared for it all with their RV stocked and ready to go at a moment's notice. Not only do consumers see RVs as a means of emergency preparedness with one potential Recreational Vehicle buyer saying, "I want an RV because I think the day will come when I'll need it. I'll need an alternative for my family. It's the only thing I can think of that will allow me to have a home for my wife and kids no matter where we have to go for whatever reason."

Scoffers were brought to task when the governor of Texas, Rick Perry, requested funds in the amount of $300 million in order to create an alternative housing program for victims of Hurricane Ike. The "alternative housing" was to consist of travel trailers, RVs, mobile and manufactured homes. And this isn't the first time large numbers of people in need have fallen back on the RV industry. The recognition of the RV as a staple in today's economy is complete. There's no doubt that there is a place for the recreational vehicle outside of the previously designated industry lines.

When asked, Clint Ethington of Pedata RV Center replied, "The RV is the simplest and easiest way to provide for victims of natural disaster. It is the simplest and easiest way for many to prepare for future hardship. And it's the most thorough method of preparedness available. You've got sleeping quarters, living quarters, eating quarters, food storage, clothing storage, a bathroom and shower…you've got everything you might need and you've got it on wheels so you can take it wherever you need to go. We get a lot of survival fanatics that are all over RVs."
