RAD Releases Enhanced Version of Airmux-400 Broadband Wireless Multiplexer

New Airmux-400 Tools and Functionality Boost Price/Performance Advantage

"By adding these four new features to the Airmux-400, we are essentially taking an already highly competitive, rock-solid product and ‘putting the icing on the cake’ to ensure it is absolutely untouchable in terms of price/performance."

Mahwah, NJ (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 11, 2009 -- RAD Data Communications, Inc., the North American subsidiary of RAD Data Communications Ltd., has announced the release of software version 2.3 for its high-capacity Airmux-400 broadband wireless multiplexer. While still offering up to 50 Mbps full-duplex throughput of Ethernet and/or up to 16 T1s in a variety of unlicensed bands (plus the 4.9 Ghz public safety band), version 2.3 of the Airmux-400 includes a quartet of important new features: a new spectrum view tool, hub site synchronization (HSS) capabilities, support for monitored hot standby (MHS), and the option to select between Diversity and MIMO antenna modes.

All new Airmux-400 orders will ship with version 2.3 at the same price of the previous version 2.1, and existing Airmux-400 customers can also acquire it as an add-on via a free software upgrade.

“By adding these four new features to the Airmux-400, we are essentially taking an already highly competitive, rock-solid product and ‘putting the icing on the cake’ to ensure it is absolutely untouchable in terms of price/performance,” explains RAD Inc. president, Uri Zilberman. “While some of these features can be found on competing solutions, they usually come with a significantly higher price tag – even twice as much in some cases.”

Especially useful during initial setup, as well as for troubleshooting, this RF survey tool provides a clear view of current traffic levels in available frequencies, allowing the user to easily identify the cleanest channel for transmission. Display information includes spectral measurement for each of the four receivers that comprise the link, spectral power measurements in 5 MHz channel granularity, current, average and maximum power per channel, and which channels are free from radars.

In multipoint-to-point applications, the HSS feature synchronizes all radios so they transmit and receive simultaneously. Already available with RAD’s lower capacity Airmux-200 model, the inclusion of HSS functionality in the Airmux-400 means that a mix of Airmux-400 and Airmux-200 radios are now supported, with up to 16 radios at a single site. This also makes possible a complete Airmux solution in which the Airmux-400 performs backhaul and the Airmux-200 provides access.

For protection of TDM services against equipment failure or temporary loss of air interface, MHS provides full equipment and air interface redundancy with no single point of failure. In the event of primary link failure, the system automatically fails over to a pre-set secondary link in about 50 milliseconds with no effect on TDM services.

The Airmux-400 version 2.3 includes a built-in user-configurable option to operate in MIMO or Diversity mode. Diversity mode uses two antennas to create RF-level redundancy. The system software then compares the signal from each antenna and selects the signal with the highest fidelity, thereby ensuring the highest link availability and reliability while providing up to 25 Mbps full-duplex throughput.

Alternatively, users can select the MIMO (multiple inputs, multiple outputs) antenna mode which delivers higher throughput of up to 50 Mbps full-duplex, while still providing a highly available and reliable link.

In short, this feature allows users to choose which mode is most appropriate based on throughput and uptime requirements of the application, as well as current air conditions at any given time. For example, the Diversity option is most useful in near line of sight (NLOS), harsh or longshot deployments, and is especially ideal for public safety and carrier applications.
