David Ratowitz on FOX News: Time is Ripe for Conservatives

Severe economic uncertainly is boosting the conservative brand in what may seem to be the unlikeliest of places. Congressional candidate David Ratowitz says people of Illinois’ 5th Congressional District, formerly represented by Rod Balgojevich and Rahm Emanuel, are weary of tax and spend policies and machine policies and ready for a return to free market ideals.

In an appearance on FOX “Freedom Watch” this week, David Ratowitz, Republican candidate for U.S. Congress, described a seismic shift in the Illinois political landscape and within Chicagoland’s 5th Congressional District specifically. “Tax and spend policies and machine politics . . . those answers are collapsing on themselves,” asserted Ratowitz. “I believe the people of the 5th District are ready to move on.”

Ratowitz outlined a largely self-sufficient, middle-class demographic in Illinois’ 5th District. “[This is a district with] a low rate of people on public assistance, a lot of small businesses but few big businesses benefiting from large government contracts, and one that pays for government but doesn’t get the benefits.

“This is a district that has never elected an incumbent when the employment rate was above 7.5 percent.”

When asked by show host Judge Andrew Napolitano whether his potential constituents understand that the problem of too much borrowing and spending cannot be solved with more of the same, Ratowitz related a campaign trail encounter with a group of union carpenters “disgusted” by the various federal bailout and stimulus programs.

“[They believe that these policies will] kill entrepreneurship in America and eliminate their opportunity to find real jobs. This is the machine base. If these guys are rejecting big government tactics, then I think we do have a chance in the 5th.”

Napolitano questioned whether in Illinois, “where Chicago politics is played fist to nose,” the Republican Party is willing and able to support Ratowitz and other “Barry Goldwater-style” limited government and free market candidates. Ratowitz assured, “There is a resurgent Republican Party in Illinois,” one that is “actively rebuilding” for victory in 2010 and beyond.

“There seems to be a genuine movement within the Republican Party to embrace liberty candidates like myself,” he continued. “We have a real opportunity, if we’re willing to take it.”

Entrepreneur, Army veteran and conservative activist David Ratowitz is running for U.S. Congress to represent Illinois’ 5th Congressional District. He is seeking the Republican nomination in the February 2, 2010, primary election. The Ratowitz for Congress campaign platform supports limited government, fiscal discipline and accountability, free markets and individual liberty.
