It is an honor to partner with such high-caliber coaches in order to give back to the charities which we all feel so strongly about.
“The Coaches Charity Challenge by Wyndham Vacation Ownership has grown tremendously since our inaugural outing in 2007, and we are pleased that so many have taken the time to become personally involved,” said Franz Hanning, president and CEO of Wyndham Vacation Ownership. “It is an honor to partner with such high-caliber coaches in order to give back to the charities which we all feel so strongly about.”

The Charter Telephone Pro-am’s will take place on Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15 during tournament week at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge. One Champions Tour professional is paired with four amateurs in a best ball format.

Participating coaches include Bobby Bowden, playing for Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Neil Callaway, playing for Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama; Jeff Fisher, playing for Catch-A-Dream; Mark Gottfried, playing for Coaches vs. Cancer; Jeff Lebo, playing for Children’s Hospital of Alabama – Child Life; Nick Saban, playing for Nick’s Kids; Steve Spurrier, playing for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital; Pat Sullivan, playing for SPONHC (Support for People with Oral and Neck and Head Cancer); and Tommy Tuberville, playing for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The coach who wins this friendly competition will receive $10,500 to be donated to his charity of choice. Second and third place winners will receive $5,000 and $2,500 respectively, and the remaining six coaches will each receive $1,000.

The first Coaches Charity Challenge was in 2007, after coach Spurrier suggested the idea of hosting a mini-competition within the pro-am to raise awareness for the tournament’s charitable mission. Last year’s competition featured Spurrier and Tuberville, and Spurrier won the match on the 13th hole.

Additional sports celebrities and entertainers playing in the Charter Telephone Pro-am include Charles Barkley, Tim Brando, Brandon Cox, Jeff Fisher, Taylor Hicks, Bo Jackson, Joe Namath, Takeo Spikes, Joe Theismann and more.
