(PRWEB) October 5, 2007 -- The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation received the Brine Family Trust grant for the post-release monitoring of sea turtles obtained from the New York State Pound Net Program. The primary mission of the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation is to preserve and protect our marine environment through education, rehabilitation, and research. The project's goal is to collect tracking data to understand habitat usage. Tracking sea turtles within New York waters provides an opportunity to monitor movements in important seasonal developmental habitats for two threatened species of sea turtles.

Robert A. DiGiovanni, Jr., Foundation Director/Senior Biologist, says, “the grant from the Brine Family Charitable Trust will help us understand how sea turtles use this environment.”
