Satellite Beach, Fla. (PRWEB) February 05, 2013
Satcom Direct, provider of satellite voice, fax, datalink and Internet communications solutions, announces its new Satcom Direct Router (SDR), a next-generation aircraft network router which will enable business and military aviation customers to manage all cabin communications systems onboard their aircraft and simultaneously use multiple satellite connections.
The SDR is satellite-ready and allows simultaneous use of Inmarsat, SwiftBroadband, Swift 64, Ku-Band and Ka-Band satellite connections with intelligent traffic control, along with Wi-Fi access and 3G/4G cellular network connectivity.
The SDR currently works with Inmarsat SwiftBroadband and Swift 64 systems from Cobham/Thrane & Thrane, Honeywell/EMS and Rockwell Collins. It also supports ViaSat Yonder® Ku-Band and is designed to work with Inmarsat’s upcoming Global Xpress/Ka-Band Service.
The SDR is compatible with most existing Wi-Fi access points and features 802.11n Dual-Band (2.4 + 5.0 GHz) Wi-Fi and is backward-compatible with 802.11b/g. Four simultaneous wireless networks will be supported initially, allowing multiple systems to operate on the aircraft without additional wireless access points. This allows for separate guest or dedicated VVIP networks. While on the ground, 3G/4G network connectivity is an option through the SDR, and Satcom Direct offers data plans for domestic and global roaming through the use of the SDR’s Dual-SIM module.
“We are very excited to announce our new Satcom Direct Router, as it will simplify cabin communications, provide additional configuration management onboard the aircraft and integrates with all of our Satcom Direct services,” said Jim Jensen, founder and owner of Satcom Direct. “We strive to make satcom communications and network connectivity on aircraft easier, accessible and more streamlined for our customers, and the SDR is a great step toward achieving that goal.”
The SDR integrates with Satcom Direct services, including AeroV®, SD Flight Tracker, SkyTicket, SkyShield and Aero X®/NG. Aero X/NG is Satcom Direct’s next-generation Aero X® service, which allows acceleration, compression and optimization of multiple satellite links and provides data caching over any satellite network.
The SDR is mobile application-ready. The SDR Mobile Apps for iPhone and iPad will be available in the App Store as the router goes into service. The apps will include on-board cabin services such as a moving map, SD Flight Tracker, command and control of satellite links, plus real-time connection status reporting.
The SDR will be available for STC certification installations beginning in April 2013. Pricing, installation information and pre-ordering of the SDR is available through any of Satcom Direct’s Authorized Dealers. A list of Authorized Dealers can be found online at http://www.satcomdirect.com/main/Dealers/AuthorizedDealers.aspx. Additional information about the SDR is also available by e-mailing sdr (at) satcomdirect (dot) com.
