Annie is lots of fun—very smart with a wicked sense of humor
Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) January 26, 2012
In her most recent novel, “Some Assembly Required: A journal of My Son's First Son,” celebrated Bay Area author Anne Lamott chronicles her unexpected new role as a grandmother and the ensuing journey that begins when she learns that her 19-year-old son Sam is about to become a father. Anne and Sam recorded the novel for the upcoming audiobook at Suburban San Francisco recording studio Live Oak Studio in Berkeley, California.
Born in the City and raised in the coastal town of Bolinas, Lamott attended and graduated from Drew, a small, urban college preparatory school in San Francisco. Her father Kenneth Lamott was also a writer, and his passing was the focus of her first published novel Hard Laughter. Sam is Anne’s only child, and Sam’s son, Anne’s first grandson and the focus of “Some Assembly Required,” is named Jax.
Lamott is loved for her self-effacing humor and ruthless honesty as she takes readers on bold journeys through the challenges she has faced in each chapter of her life. She has said that she likes to write books that she enjoys reading: books that are honest and concerned with real lives, human hearts, spiritual transformation, families, secrets, wonder, craziness—and make her laugh.
She is regarded as a master of the narrative nonfiction style called particularism, a term coined by Howard Freeman, who is quoted as saying: “Lamott is a narrator who has relished and soaked up the details of her existence, equally of mirth and devastation, and spilled them onto her pages.”
Freida Lee Mock's 1999 documentary Bird by Bird with Annie: A Film Portrait of Writer Anne Lamott, Lamott’s large following on Facebook of over 30,000, and her popularity on other online networking sites has many calling her “The People's Author."
“Annie is lots of fun—very smart with a wicked sense of humor,” said Priscilla Rice, founder of Live Oak Studio. “I am a huge fan of her writing, and it is a true gift having a great writer in the Bay Area like Annie Lamott. She brings her humor and unique perspective to all of her novels and autobiographical pieces.”
The “Some Assembly Required: A journal of My Son's First Son” audiobook is set for release on March 20, 2012.
