Saint Augustine, FL (PRWEB) October 30, 2012
Medicare Part D prescription drug plan costs and coverage can change every year and most Medicare beneficiaries will find that 2013 is no exception. In 2013, seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries can expect changes in monthly premiums, initial deductibles, initial coverage limits, prescription drug cost-sharing, Donut Hole coverage, and even formulary changes affecting the coverage of specific prescription medications.
If seniors choose not to enroll in a new 2013 Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, they will automatically be re-enrolled into the same Medicare Part D plan for the next year – along with any 2013 plan changes. Likewise, if a person’s 2012 Medicare Part D plan is merged into another plan, they will automatically be enrolled in the new plan for 2013. Unfortunately, this means that some Medicare Part D plan members who make no enrollment decision and don’t check their plan changes could potentially be paying more money in 2013 for less prescription drug coverage.
To help the Medicare community visualize 2013 Medicare Part D plan changes, the Q1Medicare.com website now has their PDP-Compare and MA-Compare tools online and updated to include changes in monthly premiums, gap coverage, drug cost-sharing, and initial deductibles. For example, Wisconsin members of the Aetna Medicare Rx Premier (PDP) can see how their monthly premium will increase 43% to $109.20 in 2013, from the current 2012 premium of $76.60.
“We also designed the PDP-Compare tool for Medicare advocates and support groups so they can quickly see the changes in stand-alone Medicare Part D plans qualifying for their state’s $0 premium Low-Income Subsidy,” notes Dr. Susan Johnson, co-founder and technical director of the Q1Medicare.com site. “For example, in the state of Vermont, advocates will now find four fewer 2013 Medicare Part D plan choices meeting the state’s Low-Income Subsidy $0 premium benchmark.”
PDP-Compare and MA-Compare users can also review Medicare Part D plans or Medicare Advantage plans that are new for 2013 or see 2012 plans that are discontinued in 2013. For instance, members of the 2012 Community CCRx, CVS Caremark, and HealthNet Orange plans are being consolidated or automatically reassigned to the 2013 SilverScript plans and Members can quickly see how this merger affects their plan costs and coverage.
“During our plan analysis, we have also noticed that many Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plans are reducing the size of their 2013 formularies or drug lists,” adds Dr. Johnson. “Therefore, along with our PDP-Compare and MA-Compare tools, Medicare beneficiaries can also use our Formulary Browser to review any 2013 Medicare prescription drug plan’s complete drug list or formulary online.”
The PDP-Compare tool is organized by state showing the annual changes in every stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan across the United States and can be found directly at PDP-Compare.com. The MA-Compare tool, found directly at MA-Compare.com, is organized by County or ZIP Code and shows changes in all Medicare Advantage plans across the country. Both PDP-Compare and MA-Compare tools are available free to all site users and, as with all other Q1Medicare.com tools, the PDP-Compare and MA-Compare tools are designed for use on PC, tablet, and smartphone platforms.
Medicare beneficiaries are reminded to review their 2013 Medicare Part D plan options and, if they find a more affordable alternative, consider changing their prescription drug coverage during the 2013 annual Open Enrollment Period that continues through Friday, December 7, 2012.
